LOCATION. THE TELEPHONE AND CABLE TV COMPANIES WILL PERFORM THEIR OWN SITE
8. ALL EXCAVATION FOR UNDERGROUND PIPE INSTALLATION MUST COMPLY WITH
PIPE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HOLD A PRECONSTRUCTION MEETING FOR INSTALLATION
WORK UP TO A SINGLE BOX ON EACH BUILDING.
OSHA STANDARDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY (29 CFR PART 1926),
TRAINING. THE PIPE MANUFACTURER SHOULD SPEND A MINIMUM OF TWO HOURS ON THE
JOB SITE DURING THE INITIAL PIPE INSTALLATION.

THE POWER COMPANY WILL PERFORM ITS OWN WORK UP TO AND INCLUDING THE
CONNECTION TO THE ELECTRIC METER FOR THE PROPOSED BUILDING. THE TELEPHONE AND
ALBEMARLE COUNTY GENERAL NOTES FOR PUBLIC ROADS:
1. PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION WITHIN ANY EXISTING PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY,
INCLUDING CONNECTION TO ANY EXISTING ROAD, A PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED
FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (VDOT). THIS PLAN AS
DRAWN MAY NOT ACCURATELY REFLECT THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PERMIT.
WHERE ANY DISCREPANCIES OCCUR THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PERMIT SHALL
GOVERN.
2. CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION OF ALL PROPOSED ROADS WITHIN THE DEVELOPMENT WILL
BE MADE BY THE COUNTY. THE CONTRACTOR MUST NOTIFY THE DEPARTMENT OF
ENGINEERING (296-5861) 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF THE START OF CONSTRUCTION.
3. ALL MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION METHODS SHALL CONFORM TO CURRENT
SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS OF VDOT, ALL EXCAVATION FOR UNDERGROUND
PIPE INSTALLATION MUST COMPLY WITH OSHA STANDARDS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
INDUSTRY (29 CFR PART 1926).
4. EROSION AND SILTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE APPROVED EROSION CONTROL PLAN AND MUST BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO
ANY CLEARING, GRADING OR OTHER CONSTRUCTION.
5. UPON COMPLETION OF FINE GRADING AND PREPARATION OF THE ROADBED
SUBGRADE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL HAVE CBR TESTS PERFORMED ON THE SUBGRADE
SOIL. THREE (3) COPIES OF THE TEST RESULTS SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE COUNTY.
IF A SUBGRADE SOIL CBR OF 10 OR GREATER IS NOT OBTAINABLE, A REVISED PAVEMENT
DESIGN SHALL BE MADE BY THE DESIGN ENGINEER AND SUBMITTED WITH THE TEST
RESULTS FOR APPROVAL.
6. ALL SLOPES AND DISTURBED AREAS ARE TO BE FERTILIZED, SEEDED AND MULCHED.
THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE SLOPE IS 2:1 (HORIZONTAL: VERTICAL). WHERE REASONABLY
OBTAINABLE, LESSER SLOPES OF 4:1 OR BETTER ARE TO BE ACHIEVED.
7. SURFACE DRAINAGE AND PIPE DISCHARGE MUST BE RETAINED WITHIN THE PUBLIC
RIGHT-OF-WAY OR WITHIN EASEMENTS PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE BY VDOT. ALL DRAINAGE
OUTFALL EASEMENTS ARE TO BE EXTENDED TO A BOUNDARY LINE OR A NATURAL
WATERCOURSE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FIELD VERIFY THE LENGTH OF ALL STORM
DRAINAGE PIPE.
8. GUARDRAIL LOCATIONS ARE APPROXIMATE. EXACT LENGTH, LOCATION AND APPROPRIATE
END TREATMENTS WILL BE FIELD DETERMINED AT THE TIME OF CONSTRUCTION. ADDITIONAL
GUARDRAIL MAY BE REQUIRED AT LOCATIONS NOT SHOWN WHEN, IN THE OPINION OF VDOT,
THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING, OR THE DIRECTORS DESIGNEE, IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY.
WHEN GUARDRAIL IS REQUIRED, IT SHALL BE INSTALLED FOUR (4) FEET OFFSET FROM THE
EDGE OF PAVEMENT TO THE FACE OF GUARDRAIL, AND ROADWAY SHOULDER WIDTHS SHALL
BE INCREASED TO SEVEN (7) FEET.
9. WHERE URBAN CROSS SECTIONS ARE INSTALLED, ALL RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY ENTRANCES
SHALL CONFORM TO VDOT CG-9(A,B OR C).
10. WHERE RURAL CROSS SECTIONS ARE INSTALLED, ALL RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY ENTRANCES
SHALL CONFORM TO VDOT STANDARD PE-1.
11. PAVED, RIP -RAP OR STABILIZATION MAT LINED DITCH MAY BE REQUIRED TO STABILIZE A
DRAINAGE CHANNEL WHEN, IN THE OPINION OF VDOT, THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING,
OR THE DIRECTORS
DESIGNEE, IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY,
12. A MINIMUM CLEAR ZONE OF TEN (10) FEET FROM THE EDGE OF PAVEMENT SHALL BE
MAINTAINED ON ALL RESIDENTIAL SUBDIVISION STREETS. ADDITIONAL CLEAR ZONE
MAY BE REQUIRED DEPENDING ON THE CATEGORY OF ROAD DESIGN.
13. COMPLIANCE WITH THE MINIMUM PAVEMENT WIDTH, SHOULDER WIDTH AND DITCH
SECTIONS, AS SHOWN ON THE TYPICAL PAVEMENT SECTION DETAIL, SHALL BE STRICTLY
ADHERED TO. THE CROSS SLOPE SHALL BE MAINTAINED AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
EXCEPTIONS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED.
GENERAL CONTRACTOR NOTES:
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ALL NECESSARY PERMITS,
INSPECTIONS, BONDS AND OTHER APPROVAL RELATED ITEMS IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL
AND STATE POLICY. PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF ANY CONSTRUCTION WITHIN ANY
EXISTING PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, INCLUDING CONNECTION TO ANY EXISTING ROAD, A
PERMIT FOR SAID CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION (HEREAFTER ABBREVIATED VDOT). WHERE ANY DISCREPANCIES OCCUR,
THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PERMIT SHALL GOVERN,
2. IFHE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE PROPOSED LAYOUT WITH ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE
EXISTING SITE SURVEY, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALSO VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS, SITE
CONDITIONS, AND MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS AND SHALL NOTIFY THE OWNER AND ENGINEER
OF ANY ERRORS, OMISSIONS OR DISCREPANCIES BEFORE COMMENCING OR PROCEEDING WITH
WORK.
3. DEVIATIONS FROM OR CHANGES TO THESE PLANS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED UNLESS APPROVED
BY THE ENGINEER/LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT.
4, THESE PLANS DO NOT GUARANTEE THE EXISTENCE OR NON-EXISTENCE OF UNDERGROUND
UTILITIES. PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION OR EXCAVATION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY
THE EXISTENCE AND LOCATION OF, OR THE NON-EXISTENCE OF, UNDERGROUND UTILITIES,
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOTIFYING "MISS UTILITY" (1-800-552-7001).
5. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE EXPLORATORY EXCAVATIONS AND LOCATE EXISTING UTILITIES
SUFFICIENTLY AHEAD OF CONSTRUCTION TO PERMIT REVISIONS TO PLANS IF NECESSARY.
THE EXISTENCE AND/OR LOCATION OF UTILITIES SHOWN ON THESE PLANS MAY BE ONLY
APPROXIMATELY CORRECT AND THE CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONARY
MEASURES TO PROTECT THE UTILITIES SHOWN HEREON AND ANY OTHER EXISTING UTILITIES
NOT OF RECORD OR NOT SHOWN ON THESE PLANS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING, AT HIS EXPENSE, ANY EXISTING UTILITIES DAMAGED DURING
CONSTRUCTION, IF A UTILITY IS DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION, STOP WORK IMMEDIATELY
-NND NOTIFY THE ENGINEER.
6. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT HE SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR
JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT,
INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS AND PROPERTY; THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY
CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS; AND THAT THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE ENGINEER
HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL AND ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH THE
PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT, EXCEPTING FOR LABILITY ARISING FROM
THE SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER OR THE ENGINEER".
7. RELOCATION OF ANY EXISTING UTILITIES SHALL BE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE AND
COMPLETED WITH THE SITE WORK. THE DEVELOPER SHALL BE NOTIFIED AS TO THE
RELOCATIONS REQUIRED PRIOR TO THE START OF CONSTRUCTION. ADEQUATE AS -BUILT
RECORDS OF ADJUSTMENTS WILL BE MAINTAINED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
8. BEFORE BURNING, BLASTING, OR TRANSPORTATION OR STORAGE OF EXPLOSIVES, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL REQUIRED PERMITS.
9. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ROCK
BLASTING, RIPPING, EXCAVATION, TRANSPORTATION, PLACEMENT, COMPACTION,
EXPLORATION AND DISPOSAL.
10. ALL UNSUITABLE MATERIAL SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS OF
PAVEMENT, BUILDINGS AND WALL AREAS,
11. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ADEQUATELY PROTECT EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, AND COMPLETED
WORK FROM THEFT AND VANDALISM. THE OWNER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOSS OF
ANY MATERIAL STORED AT THE SITE.
12. ANY DAMAGE TO EXISTING PHYSICAL FEATURES (WALKS, LIGHTS, TREES, SHRUBS, ETC.)
SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR. REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT SHALL
BE MADE AS NECESSARY AT NO COST TO THE OWNER,
CABLE TV COMPANIES WILL PERFORM THEIR OWN WORK UP TO THE BUILDING.
28. ALL SPRINGS SHALL BE CAPPED AND PIPED TO THE NEAREST DRAINAGE DITCH OR DRAINAGE
OUTFALL. PIPE SHALL BE 6-INCH MINIMUM DIAMETER AND CONFORM TO VDOT STANDARDS
SB-1. NOTIFY ENGINEER IN ALL CASES.
29. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, FINISH GRADES AT BUILDING SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 6-INCHES
BELOW GROUND FLOOR INTERIOR FINISH FLOOR ELEVATION (FFE). GRADES SHALL SLOPE A
MINIMUM OF 5% AWAY FROM STRUCTURES TO A POINT WHERE EITHER PROPOSED/EXISTING
GRADES. A DITCH OR OTHER MEANS OF ADEQUATE CONVEYANCE CHANNELS SHALL COLLECT
AND DIRECT RUN-OFF AWAY FROM THE STRUCTURES.
30. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PERFORMING AN INDEPENDENT EARTHWORK/
GRADING ESTIMATE WHICH WILL SERVE AS THE BASIS OF ALL CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS
BETWEEN THE CONTRACTOR AND OWNER. OWNER TO NOTIFY ENGINEER OF THE OUTCOME
OF CONTRACTOR'S ESTIMATE.
31. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ANY ADDITIONAL FILL MATERIAL
THAT MAY BE NECESSARY IN THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR THE DISPOSAL OF ANY EXCESS MATERIAL FROM THE SITE. ANY SUCH EARTH -MOVING
ACTIVITY IS SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE OWNER AND ENGINEER.
SITE CONSTRUCTION
1. UPON COMPLETION OF FINE GRADING AND PREPARATION OF THE PAVEMENT SUBGRADE, CBR
TESTS SHALL BE PERFORMED ON THE SUBGRADE SOIL. IF A SUBGRADE SOIL SUPPORT VALUE
OF 10 OR GREATER IS NOT OBTAINABLE, A REVISED PAVEMENT DESIGN SHALL BE MADE BY THE
ENGINEER.
2. ALL UNSUITABLE MATERIAL SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS OF PAVED
AREAS.
3. CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS SHALL BE CONTAINERIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE VIRGINIA LITTER
CONTROL ACT. NO LESS THAN ONE LITTER RECEPTACLE SHALL BE PROVIDED AT THE
CONSTRUCTION SITE,
