PRICE HYUNDAI ARB APPLICATION
SUPPLEMENTARY SHEET TO PART C: DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSAL
Proposal is for a new Hyundai car showroom and service center which will replace the existing
one that is now located on the Price Chevrolet site at 2150 Seminole Trail. The new project will
be located on what is currently known as Building Site A, Phase 1, Northtown Center on the
east side of Route 29, north of Charlottesville. The site is set -back 252 feet from the curb of the
north -bound lanes of Route 29, with the existing Stellar One Bank site located between Route
29 and the proposed new building site.
Because the site drops downward going away from the Route 29 property line, the service
center, which sits behind the showroom building, sits lower than the showroom building and will
only be partially visible from the highway along the south facade, although it is anticipated that
parked vehicles and landscaping will completely shield it from view from the public right of way.
The building is nestled up close to a steep grade with heavy landscaping on the north side so
there should be no visibility of the service area along that side.
The showroom building is one story in height, measuring 24' -4" to the mid -point of the sloped
metal roof or 28' -10" to the ridge line of the metal roof.
The showroom design is dominated by a standing seam metal hip roof that matches the existing
bank roof in color. The roof overhang projects 5 feet beyond the line of columns that support it
and actual building footprint sits back 16 ft from the face of the columns on the street side and
each of the adjacent ends of the building. This deep covered area is used as vehicle display
space which would normally be outside on the open site in most traditional car dealerships.
Other materials on the exterior include a tan colored ACM panel system on the fascia the
connects the columns and on the columns; store front of clear glass in anodized aluminum
frames at the building footprint perimeter; a square entry element that provides entry
identification for physical access, signage, and corporate logo. The entry element is blue ACM
with signage and logo in chrome, all in accordance with Hyundai corporate guidelines. The part
of the structure where the grade drops below floor level is in brick.
It should be noted that Hyundai corporate guidelines usually require a silver ACM panel system
over the entire facade along with store front. Hyundai has agreed to a color system that is more
conforming to Albemarle County's guidelines for this location so the total area of ACM paneling
has been greatly reduced and a tan color has been substituted for the silver.
