Let me know if you need hardcopies to review and I will be glad to drop them off. David Michelle, Attached are the revised Design Plans and Drainage Report for the project. Generally the changes include the following: • Drainage and Pipe Reports use the SCS 24-hr storm Methodology as requested by the County Engineer. Generally speaking this method produces a greater volume of water when compared with the Rational method. • The biofilter embankment was raised and the downslope grading was revised accordingly. • We eliminated one manhole and made some minor revisions to the stormwater pipe system. • The remaining manhole is 5'diameter and contains a 1'tall weir. • The underdrain system daylights at the endwall. • Both the 10-yr and 100-yr storms are accommodated by the biofilter and outfall pipe. The emergency spillway only becomes active above the 100-yr storm. • The plan revision are "clouded"to facilitate your review. Let me know if you have any additional questions or comments or would like a hardcopy of these documents. David ANHOLD ASSOCIATES Landscape Architecture Site Design Planning 8311 Rockfish Gap Trnpk. If it is not, can you also confirm when the Rational Method can be used for routing? If this is something he can answer before the meeting, I don't think we will need to meet. And if it is required that the SCS method is used, considering we are still providing something that"isn't required",we will simply use the SCS method and revise the max stage elevations and discharge flowrates on the dwgs and that will be that. David/Michelle, if you still prefer to meet, I am all for it but think that we can save some time otherwise. Thanks Michelle, Frank Frank V. It includes the revised manhole configuration and the 18" pipes. According to Jim's calculations, both the 10-yr and 100-yr events remain within the pond. See explanation below. I'll call later this afternoon to see if you have any questions/comments, and to find out how you would like to proceed for final approval. I also did some research on the exfiltration rate of the Biomix. From Luck Stone product data, they classify their biomix as a Loamy Sand. The State of Md lists a minimum infiltrtation rate of 2.41 in/hr for a loamy sand. (Sources: http://www.mde.state.md.us/programs/Water/StormwaterManagementProgram/MarylandStormwaterDesignManual/Docu ments/www.mde.state.md.us/assets/document/sedimentstormwater/Appnd D13.pdf) http://www.luckstone.com/sites/default/files/BIOFILTER.pdf I chose to use a lower rate of 2.0 in/hr due to the nature of these calculations. With the reconfiguration of the system (omitting the weir and decreasing the pipe size)the 10 year event remains contained within the pond. Please recall that I have omitted the available storage volume of the 18" pipe(s)due to software limitations. Nonetheless, the outfall shows zero during the event as the brief period and depth (<1/2")of storage elevation above the outfall pipe invert is too short to be recognized by the outfall model. Therefore it is a calculation anomalie, typical when modeling a small, "flashy"watershed.. 2 NNW NINO' Similarly, the 100 year event shows no outfall for the pipe even though the pond elevation is 3"above the"weir"elevation. The timeline of that flooding is too short to effectively calculate a flow leaving the system. Instead of a single inlet with an interior weir,we went with a two manhole system (with an overflow pipe in place of the weir)that is more conventional and will be easier to access and maintain when necessary. Also, the Low Bid we received will allow for construction of channel improvements for both the upper area and the pipe outfall area. Attached is a pdf copy of the final plans for your review. I also looked at pipes for overflow. It appears that you will be capturing about 33%of 10 year storm event into biofilter and the rest will be handled by overflow pipe. Since we do not have a reference point of pre-existing conditions, this will be considered an improvement to the site and will be approvable.Go ahead and submit plans. -Michelle From: David Anhold [mailto:danholdhughes.net] Sent: Monday, November 25, 2013 10:57 AM To: Michelle Roberge Cc: Frank Pohl Subject: RE: E2_esc_Western Albemarle High School Michelle, 1 Sorry for not getting back to you much earlier on this.
