Please find our responses to the comments below in bold lettering. Land Use: 1. With the removal of the gate at the bus loop entrance. Provide justification on how this entrance still qualifies and will function as a low volume commercial entrance. Per VDOT's Road and Bridge Standards, Appendix F, a low volume commercial entrance is defined as "any access point ... that generate(s) 50 or fewer vehicular trips per day." As the bus loop entrance will only be used for bus traffic, this entrance still qualifies as a low volume commercial entrance as the bus traffic is well under 50 trips as previously confirmed with the initial approval of this low volume entrance. There are currently (2) "DO NOT ENTER — BUSES ONLY" signs proposed at the entrance; the design intent for these signs is to provide adequate visibility for drivers to see before making a turn into the bus only entrance. However, we have clarified our intent on the plan by rotating one of the signs slightly to improve visibility for drivers on Crozet Avenue traveling north bound. The signage remains perpendicular to the road for warning south bound traffic from making a left as those vehicles would approach and then turn to look at the entrance before the maneuver. As an added measure to further enhance visibility on approach and communication, we have added yellow striping and "BUSES ONLY" marked on the pavement to supplement the regulation of this entrance for bus traffic only. Further, this new high contrast yellow striping extends into the site with "BUS EXIT ONLY" marked on the pavement to prohibit cars from egressing through this entrance. Additional signs have also been added stating "DO NOT ENTER - BUSES ONLY" and a no left turns sign (113-2) has been added across from the parking lot connection to prevent left turns for egress by cars. ENGINEERING I DESIGN I TECHNOLOGY With these added measures and the absence of specificity in Appendix F for such regulation of a low volume entrance, it is our opinion that these added measures should be sufficient to remove the gate. We have included PDF copies of the plans and calculations for your review.
