Name of Plan: iR6b t-oBsr- P...ES?ave 1"
Plan No.:
Date:
Number of Copies: Narrative ON ca.a Plans o2
The following step-by-step checklist will assist applicants with the preparation of an erosion & sediment control plan in
accordance with the ordinance.
Narrative will include:
(21. R Project Description -Briefly describes the nature and purpose of the land disturbing activity, and the area (acres)
to be disturbed.
e 7.2 P Existing Site Conditions-A description of each of the following: existing topography, vegetation and drainage.
Ct.1.-R ' Adjacent Areas - A description of neighboring areas such as streams, lakes, residential areas, roads, etc., which
might be affected by the land disturbance.
C11- V Off-Site Areas - Describe any off-site land disturbing activities that will occur (including borrow sites, waste or
surplus areas, etc.). If no off-site areas will be disturbed as part of this site, then this must be clearly stated in the
narrative.
C1 .-Pi Soils -A brief description of the soils on the site giving such information as soil name, mapping unit, erodibility,
permeability, depth, texture and soil structure based on the"USDA Soil Survey of Albemarle County,Virginia".
C Li-I mot',—,/ Critical Areas - A description of areas on the site which have potentially serious erosion problems (e.g., steep
slopes,channels,wet weather/underground springs,etc.).
Ct 1-[r Erosion & Sediment Control Measures - A description of the methods which will be used to control erosion and
sedimentation on the site.(Controls should meet the specifications in Chapter 3 of the Handbook.)
G1't4J Permanent Stabilization - A brief description, including specifications, of how the site will be stabilized after
construction is completed.
0,ti Or Stormwater Runoff Considerations - Will the development site cause an increase in peak runoff rates? Will the
increase in runoff cause flooding or channel degradation downstream? Describe the strategy to control
stormwater runoff.
0.1L 11( Calculations-Detailed calculations for the design of temporary sediment basins, permanent stormwater detention
basins,diversions,channels,etc. Include calculations for pre-and post-development runoff.

61 ti[ Maintenance - A schedule of regular inspections and repair of erosion and sediment control structures should be
set forth. The Department of Engineering&Public Works suggests the following as a minimum guideline:
Maintenance: In general, all erosion and sediment control measures will be checked daily and after each
significant rainfall. Specific attention will be given to the following items:
a. Sediment basins and/or traps will be cleaned and maintained in accordance with the Virginia Erosion &
Sediment Control Handbook.
b. All gravel outlets will be checked regularly for sediment buildup that will prevent proper drainage. If the
gravel is clogged by sediment, the gravel will be removed and cleaned,or it will be replaced.
C1110 Minimum Standards -All applicable Minimum Standards must be addressed. The following minimum standards
must be included in all narratives:
Er 4(1): Permanent or temporary soil stabilization shall be applied to denuded areas within seven
days after final grade is reached on any portion of the site. Temporary soil stabilization shall be
applied within seven days to denuded areas that may not be at final grade but will remain dormant
(undisturbed)for longer than 30 days. Permanent stabilization shall be applied to areas that are to
be left dormant for more than one year.
is " 4(4): Sediment basins and traps, perimeter dikes, sediment barriers and other measures intended
to trap sediment shall be constructed as a first step in any land disturbing activity and shall be
made functional before upslope land disturbance takes place.
[r 4(5): Stabilization measures shall be applied to earthen structures such as dams, dikes and
diversions immediately after installation.
ILF 4(17): Where construction vehicle access routes intersect paved public roads, provisions shall be
made to minimize the transport of sediment by (vehicular) tracking onto the paved surface.
Where sediment is transported onto a public road surface, the road shall be cleaned thoroughly at
the end of each day. Sediment shall be removed from the roads by shoveling or sweeping and
transported to a sediment control disposal area. Street washing shall be allowed only after
sediment is removed in this manner. This provision shall apply to individual subdivision lots as
well as to larger land disturbing activities.
V4(18): All temporary erosion and sediment control measures shall be removed within 30 days
after final site stabilization or after the temporary measures are no longer needed, unless
otherwise authorized by the local program administrator. Trapped sediment and the disturbed soil
areas resulting from the disposition of temporary measures shall be permanently stabilized to
prevent further erosion and sedimentation.
Erosion& Sediment Control Plan will include:
(', [✓] Vicinity Map - A small map locating the site in relation to the surrounding area. Include any landmarks that
might assist in locating the site.
Au.. (A/ Indicate North-The direction of north in relation to the site.
CZZQi Limits of Clearing & Grading - Areas that are to be cleared and graded (including demolition of existing roads
and structures).

,2.'d ✓ Existing Contours-The existing contours of the site.
✓ Final Contours-Changes to the existing contours, including final drainage patterns.
C3 ✓ Existing Vegetation-The existing tree lines,grassed areas,or unique vegetation.
ea; 4 Soils - The boundaries of different soil types. Contact the Department of Engineering & Public Works, Erosion
Control section(434)296-5861 if you are unsure of the soils on your site.
Ca.a ✓4 Existing Drainage Patterns - The dividing lines and the direction of flow for the different drainage areas
(including the areas for each inlet and E&SC measure) to verify adequacy. Note the size (acreage) of each
drainage area.
J I P ❑ Critical Erosion Areas - Areas with potentially serious erosion problems. (See Chapter 6 of the Handbook for
criteria.)
%y'- ✓ Site Development-Show all improvements such as buildings,parking lots,access roads,utility construction,etc.
CM ✓ - Location of Practices-The locations of erosion and sediment controls and stormwater management practices used
on the site. Use the standard symbols and abbreviations in Chapter 3 of the Handbook.)
PIA ❑ Off-Site Areas - Identify any off-site land disturbing activities (e.g., borrow sites, waste areas, etc.). Show
location of erosion controls. (Is there sufficient information to assure adequate protection and stabilization?)
C2.3 [r Detail Drawings - Any structural practices used that are not referenced to the E&S Handbook or local handbooks
should be explained and illustrated with detail drawings.
C2.1 I ''j' Dust Control—Dust control must be provided on all projects. Include the dust control symbol on the plan sheet.
CT/ Construction Entrance-Wash rack if necessary.
►JAR ❑ Note for the erosion control measures located on subdivision lots: "The developer shall reserve the right to install,
maintain, remove and/or convert to permanent stormwater management facilities (where applicable) all erosion
control measures required by this plan regardless of the sale of any lot."
Miscellaneous Information
isq n Waste Areas-Must comply with all waste area regulations(refer to Waste Areas Checklist).

mass grading(also called rough or early grading plans which contain only approximate finished grades and culverts necessary to grade.)can only be
permitted within planned developments where a concept grading plan was approved with the rezoning. The agent(Director of Planning)needs to
formally determine that the grading plan is in general conformity with the approved rezoning plan. Otherwise, all final plans need to be approved
prior to issuance of grading permits.
