Re: Soils and geologic study
Lots 1 through 26
Earlysville Forest
Dear Daley:
As requested we have completed a soils and geological study of
lots 1 through 26 in the proposed Earlysville Forest subdivision,
Earlysville, Virginia. The purpose of the study was to determine
the suitability of soils for the use of drainfeilds as a means of
sewage disposal.
Geologically, the site is underlain by rocks of the Lovingston
formation. The major minerals found in the Lovingston are plagioclase
f and orthoclase feldspars, quartz and biotite. Soils on the site are
both alluvial and residual. The residual soils are found on the
ridges and slopes and have been derived from the underlying bedrock.
The alluvial soils occur in the floodplains of the small streams
that flow across the property.
Drianfields will be constructed in the residual soils. The normal
soil profile in these soils consists of about 12 inches of topsoil,
below which there is a variable thickness of red silty clays. The
red silty clays grade vertically into silts, sandy silts and silty
sands. The most favorable percolation rates occur in the silts,
silty sands and sandy silts so we are recommending that drainfields
be constructed in these soils.
Enclosed are soil profile data for each lot. On the sheets we
have outlined areas for drainfields. Logs for each of the test holes
along with remarks on conditions on each lot are also included.
We hope this is the information you needed.
Very truly yours,
