GOOCH AND ASSOCIATES ARLOTTESVILLE Consulting Geologists and Engineers • November 9, 1983 Mr. Michael C. Wholley c/o William S. Roudabush, Inc. 914 Monticello Road Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 Re: Soils and "eoloical Study Parcel 17 - Tax Map 73 Intersection of State Routes 637 and 682 Albemarle County, Virginia • Dear Nr. Wholley: As requested, we have completed a soils and geological 'study at the referenced site. The purpose of the study was to determine the suitability of the soils for the disnosa.l of sewage by means of septic tank/drainfield systems. The investigation has consisted of 4irilling a series of hand auger test holes on each lot to determine soil profiles. The soil profile logs are shown on the enclosed soil profile sheets along with a sketch showing the approximate hole locations and the recommended drainfield sites. Generally, the soil profile consists of about 12 inches of topsoil beneath which there is a layer of clay, sandy clay or clayey sand. The clay layer is underlain by micaceous silty sand, micaceous sandy silt and/or micaceous silt which, in turn, grades vertically into the under- lying Lovingston granite gneiss bedrock. We recommend that drainfield lines be placed in the micaceous silty sand, micaceous sandy silt and/or micaceous silt as percolation tests run on similar soils in the area have yielded favorable percolation rates. We hope this is the information you need. If you have any questions, please let us know. Very truly yours, E.O. Gooch and Associates 5&Q I- Steve rooch SPG/fa Enclosures • E. O.
