HomeMy WebLinkAboutAP202300001 Correspondence 2023-03-20Petition: to Appeal the Zoning Administrator's Determination Approving a Major Home Business at 2822 Free Union Road We, the undersigned, are appealing the Zoning Administrator's determination which approves the Major Home Business involving "firearms related services and legal services, including secure storage for long-term travelers, (e.g. military personnel,) legal services for estates with firearms, hand-crafted manufacturing of firearms and transfers" at 2822 Free Union Road. Having a gun dealer in the neighborhood will, de facto, change the ambiance and rural nature of our community. Firearms production is antithetical to the interests of a rural, family -oriented neighborhood and the thought of this aggrieves us. It also aggrieves us that the applicant is offering legal services with regard to firearms, and yet is not a registered lawyer in the Commonwealth of Virginia (per Membership Dept of Virginia State Bar). From a safety perspective we have serious concergs about the type of people who will be coming into the neighborhood to purchase these guns or to have their own guns mpdified. Furthermore, the presence of a firearms dealer in our family -oriented neighborhood will negatively effect properly values. We, the undersigned, also appeal to the members of the Board of Supervisors to modify the current Ordinance 5.2A to deny firearms businesses in homes in any part of Albemarle County, as they have already denied other small businesses (e.g. animal rescue centers, on -site pet grooming, etc.) from home settings. We believe it is not the intent and purpose of the Ordinance ---which we understand is intended to promple small business opportunities in private homes in rural areas of the County and to "protect and preserve the quality and character of the county's agricultural and residential neighborhoods..." ---to allow firearms businesses, when in the past they have denied potters a tile -making business.
