Subject: SDP - 2008 -084 Dunlora Gates Follow Up Flag: Follow up Flag Status: Red SDP - 2008 -084 Dunlora Gates Megan Yaniglos, We have reviewed the above site plan and have the following comments: General • A flexible pavement design worksheet must be completed for each public subdivision road. This worksheet can be found on Appendix IV of the VDOT Pavement Design Guide. • Since the proposed 5' concrete sidewalk is within a sidewalk easement and not within the VDOT right -of -way, VDOT will not maintain the sidewalk. • The proposed design speed of Townbrook Court and Townbrook Crossing is 25 mph. For projected traffic volumes up to 400 ADT, the design speed is typically 20 mph. Geometrics The minimum radius of a cul -de -sac with a completely paved surface is 45' unless specifically approved by the County in consultation with emergency services. The minimum radius may be reduced to 30' if such approval is granted. The profile for Townbrook Crossing on sheet 6 shows that the K -value for the crest vertical curve is 11.7 and the K- value of the sag vertical curve is 7.5. For a road with a design speed of 25 mph, the minimum required K -value for a crest vertical curve is 12, and the minimum for a sag vertical curve is 26. Either the design speed of the road should be decreased and/or the length of the vertical curve should be increased so that proposed K- values equal or exceed the minimum required values. At the intersection of Townbrook Court and Townbrook Crossing, 250' sight distance lines are shown. The required intersection sight distance for a design speed of 25 mph is 280'. Drainage • A freeboard computation (defined as the difference between the elevation of the edge of shoulder and the headwater) is needed for the culvert connecting drainage structures 1 and 2. Our estimates indicate that the required 18" of freeboard has not been provided. If you have any questions regarding these comments, please contact Joel DeNunzio or me.
