[ Joel .Denunzio @VDOT.virginia.gov] Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 9:46 AM To: Philip Custer Subject: WPO- 2008 -00103 Pounding Branch Sub phases II and III WPO- 2008 -00103 Pounding Branch Sub phases II and III Phil, We have reviewed the above plan and have the following comments: Page 1 of 1 • The intersection at Sprouse Mountain Road and Rte. 637 should be revised to provide a landing, minimum of 50' in length and having a maximum vertical grade of 2 %. This should be measured from the edge of pavement of the connecting road. • The edge of pavement radii at the intersections of Sprouse Mountain Road and Pounding Branch Lane should be increased to 50'. • The culvert outlet protection for all pipes should be designed in accordance with VDOT's Hydraulic Design Advisory HDA 06 -03.1. • The freeboard calculations for the DI -7 drop inlets should be revised to comply with Section 9.4.7.2 of the VDOT Drainage Manual. The 50% clogged line should be used for the design headwater depths. • The roadway typical section detail for shoulder widths requiring guardrail should be revised to show an additional width of 3'. • The cul -de -sacs need to be approved by the county in coordination with emergency services for a radius of less than 45 feet. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thanks Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E. Staff Engineer 434 -293 -0011 Ext. 120 joel.denunzio @vdot.virginia.gov 2/10/2009
