The erosion and Sediment Control plans for the Lone Oak Mitigation Bank submitted on 11 November
2009 have received Albemarle County Engineering review. The plan appears to require the following
additional review information prior to approval.
1) Please clarify how downstream areas will be protected prior to soil stabilization. E &SC plan appears
to show protection for the stockpile areas only. This office recommends utilizing the Virginia Uniform
Coding System for Erosion and Sediment Control Practices.
a) Please state whether the existing ponds will remain in place until areas above are stabilized.
b) Please note on the plans: All work will be performed "in the dry' as per the Virginia Erosion and
Sediment Control Handbook, 3rd edition.
c) Please all show proposed grades.
d) Show temporary vehicular stream crossings (Std. & Spec 3.24, VESCH) on the plans where
contractor is expected to cross streams.
e) Show utility stream crossings (Std. & Spec 3.25, VESCH) on the plans where contractor is
expected to divert streams to work "in the dry ".
f) Show temporary sediment traps (Std. & Spec. 3.13, VESCH) in areas not expected to be stabilized
within 7 days of disturbance.
2) This office recommends limiting the acres of active disturbance to 10 acres or less without soil
stabilization.
3) Page 3.0.1 - needs correction. There are two streams with 4.0 designations.
4) Page 5.6 - Construction entrances will be per VESCH 3.02 (i.e. a minimum 12'x 70' for one -way
traffic.)
Due to the level of requested items to be shown on the plans, additional comments /corrections may be
forth coming.
Once these comments have been addressed, please submit 2 copies of the revised plans, calculations, and
narratives to Current Development Engineering.
Current Development Engineering is available from 2:30 -4 PM on Thursdays to discuss these review
comments. Please contact Max Greene at 434 - 296 -5832 ext. 3283 or email mgreene @albemarle.org to
