RE: ARB- 2010 -01: Waffle House Sign Change
Dear Mr. Richardson:
I have reviewed the above -noted request to reduce the height of the existing Waffle House monument sign at Route 29
North and Premiere Circle. Because the proposed revision does not constitute a substantial change in design, and because
the design otherwise meets the Entrance Corridor Design Guidelines, I am able to review this proposal administratively for
the ARB. I have approved a sign of the design outlined below. You may consider this letter your Certificate of
Appropriateness.
FREESTANDING SIGNS
Type: Monument
Materials: Cabinet on brick base
Location: Sign to remain in existing location at north side of entrance into property
Overall Sign Size: 7' -11 1/8" High x 8' -6 5/8" Long x 9" Deep
Cabinet Size: 2' -11 1/8" High x 8' -6 5/8" Long x 9" Deep
Base Size: 5' High x 7' -1 13/16" Long x 7 3 /a" Deep
Text: Waffle House
Colors: Cabinet: Yellow letters on opaque black background
Base: Brick to match building (brick of existing monument shall be re -used)
Graphics: None
Illumination: Existing internal illumination, only letters of sign shall illuminate, background is opaque
This approval is predicated on the fact that the design and materials, as proposed and listed above, will be used. The
acceptance of approval implies that the applicant has agreed to execute the design as indicated on the submittal items
presented, and as listed above. Any changes in the approved sign or materials will require an amendment to the application
and must be reviewed and approved by the Architectural Review Board.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. This approval does not include any window signs. If window signs are proposed, a separate application must be made,
reviewed and approved by the Architectural Review Board.
2. "Opaque" means that light will not pass through the material. Consequently, the color of the background portion of the
face of the sign will not be visible when the sign is internally illuminated at night. If you have any question about this
requirement for an opaque background, do not proceed with the construction or installation of the sign until you have
spoken with County staff.
If you have any questions concerning any of the above, please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
Margaret Maliszewski
