Market; TM 115 P 28 Albemarle County, Vmginia CMW Project No. 0809 Dear Mrs, Satterly, on February 15 and March 7., 2006 representatives of our.fa.rm were at the referenced "property, at your request, to observe the existing septic systems. We understated that you are im the proc:es-s of purchasing the rtque t dto Mazltet and need verification as to the condition of the septic system. You intend to have a total - of 3 employees working at the store m*h each putting in an 8 hour shift. The store has a small deli and associated food preparation activities. There is no public restroom. This letter iti:elude§ our findings aril recommendations. 'l: hc'septic system, reportedly was installed appr,62ama0y 20 years ago, hoverer, the health department Maas no rcc6rds concerning the installation. You were able to find ft individual who installed ite system and he identified the location of the septic tank, distribution box, and drain lines, )3y the time of our second'site visit the septic tank and distribution boat were uncovered. Ile septic tauk appears to be a 1000 gallon tank. Them axe three drain lines conning out of the distribution box. The box is relatively cleats and appeared to be flinctioning properly. The drain lines appeared to be 3' wide, 45' long„ and 8' -9'• on center. The' drain-I(ne adjacent to the distribution tpc3awas about 3.5' below the ground surface. The other drain lines were installed uphill firorn the first and axe reportedly, deeper in the ground.- We per ani,ed-a hand-auger boring in the soil at the end of the first drain tine, to an estimated 21. below the trench bottom. The auger boring found loam sore with no indications of rock or the water table, and-with an estimated percolation gate of 40 Mph Based on'the conditions encountered, we calculated the capacity of the septic system d y f sew moist 0 the ,gallons per day, We anticipate that each-employee wM place 30 •- 35.gaUo6ns per day of sewage into the system. As such, a total of 90 —105 gallons per day will be, entering the system and it is capable of handling twice that amount. WhiJc the septic system is working property now, there did not appear to be any way to expand the system, should it fail. Froth the difficulty you had in locating the septic tank, we anticipate that it probably has not been pinmped -out at the recommended 3 -5 year interval., In order to 'keep the system fumctiodng properly and extend its life, we recommend that the septic tank be Pumped immediately and eeeiy 3 -5 years in the -- - - - -- hope this this is the information ybu need. _ Should anything else.be_required, please feel free to contact us. -- -- _ Very Truly Yowls. . llomas.A.
