County of Albemarle Department of Community Development Memorandum To: Joan McDowell, Principal Planner From: Amelia McCulley, Zoning Administrator Division: Zoning Date: December 16, 2010 Subject: S.P. 2010 -0042 David Brown Public Garage I have reviewed the initial submittal and have the following comments: 1. Depending on how many vehicles will need parking spaces outside the garage as they await repair or pickup, the existing paved driveway area may not accommodate all necessary parking. By my rough calculations, there is sufficient room for the five (5) spaces required (two for the dwelling and one for each service bay). However, this number does not include any parking for vehicles awaiting repair. Please ask the applicant to explain how he is going to handle parking for vehicles that are either awaiting repair or have repair completed and are awaiting pickup. 2. We will need a sketch plan that depicts the entrance and the area for vehicles awaiting repair (if applicable) as well as available parking area. The plan should also show any outdoor storage or features if proposed, such as oil barrels, outdoor vehicle lifts, storage or parts and the like. With this type of use, we typically impose a condition to limit the area and /or number of vehicles awaiting repair. Once we have the information request in #1 and #2, we will do an onsite visit to see how it can work. 3. It will be good to ask the applicant to address issues such as: a) is he proposing a paint booth? b) how will he handle storage and disposal of fluids such as oil and the like?
