The K values for Upland Dr. at stations 10 +49 and 13 +50 are below standard. The K values on Golf Dr. at station 11 +29 are below standard and the K values on Claremont Lane at stations 20 +53, 25 +50 and 26 +20 are below standard. Sent: Monday, August 30, 2010 10:46 AM To: 'Max Greene' Cc: pcuster(a)albemarle.org Subject: Old Trail Block 4 Road Plan Old Trail Block 4 Road Plan Max, I have reviewed the revisions to the Old Trail Block 4 Road plan and have the following comments: 1. The pipe run from structure 40 to 10 does not match the run proposed in the latest block 4 plan and will need to be revised. 2. A drainage easement will be required for the pipe run from structure 40 to 10. Also, as discussed in the site review meeting for the block 4 plan, a maintenance agreement will be required between the county and VDOT for the maintenance of this section of storm drain system that is off the road right of way. 3. The velocities in pipes 43 and 41 are less than the minimum requirement in the VDOT Drainage Manual, section 9.4, and need to be redesigned to have a minimum velocity of 3 feet per second. 4. The reduction in pavement widths for Upland Dr. and Claremont Lane appear to be adequate. Off - street parking in accordance with the requirements for reduced pavement widths in Appendix B of the VDOT Road Design Manual need to be indicated on the plan. In a field check, we measured a 19 foot pavement section on the section of Claremont Lane that has been constructed. This will need to be corrected prior to acceptance and the proper pavement width needs to be constructed for the rest of Claremont. 5. The K values for the vertical curvature of the road on Golf Dr. and Upland Dr. in the sag conditions are less than the minimum values indicated on sheet S -4 of the plan. Please note that the CG -11 Street Connection Minimum Standard states that intersections are to be designed with the minimum K values. Street Trees on Upland and Claremont are to be placed 30 back form all intersections and entrances. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E.
