Bill,
I have reviewed the minor amendment for the pool dome at Claudius Crozet Park (SDP- 2011 - 00015) and have
contacted the applicant with regard to the overflow from the pool during rain events. Because impervious area
is being added to the plan in three areas where concrete pads are being installed, stormwater quality will be
necessary. However, since this site plan is within the drainage area of the Lickinghole Basin, stormwater
quality must be addressed with a pro -rata payment. This payment has been calculated to be $76.51. This
calculation includes the new concrete areas but excludes the existing impervious areas and the pool because the
pool currently overflows into storm drainage system (see below). Because the total hydrologic impacts to the
watershed are so minor, there are existing stormwater facilities downstream, and the disturbance is under an
acre, stormwater detention will not required.
Once this fee is paid, engineering review will have no objection to the approval of the plan.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Phil

I just learned that the pool does indeed overflow into the storm drain system that discharges toward the pond.

Thanks, Alan. If Crozet got a half inch of rain, would the pool overflow into the sanitary sewer,
the lawn, or no- where (meaning the pool needs to be drawn down manually via a pump or
similar apparatus)?

Phil,
I had to bounce the question back to the pool folks and this is what I found out.
from Kelly Strickland:
'Vve copied Andrew to correct me here. But my understanding is that we very seldom drain the
pool. I expect we do have a drain that carries to the sanitary sewer; but typically we use a sump
pump (discharging to lawn) to lower the level of the pool, and in the few instances where we
have needed to lower the level a substantial amount to correct dissolved solids, the CVFD has
loaned us the use of their pump truck."
from Andrew referenced above:
"The overflow drains at the Northwest corner towards the basketball courts next to the fence." I think he means
towards the horseshoe pits.
Thanks,
Alan

Alan,
Bill asked me to look at the minor amendment you submitted for the dome overtop of the pool at Claudius
Crozet Park. Where does the overflow from the pool go? Does it go to sanitary or into the drains in the
concrete around the pool that outlet northeast and northwest of the pool?
Thanks,
Phil
