All programs and services are designed to empower victims of abuse to become self - sufficient, break the cycle of violence, and create a community that is more supportive of victims of domestic violence Event Concept and Overview: A design house fundraising event is centered on open house tours of a home that has been decorated by professional interior designers. The home is a private residence that the owner has made temporarily available for the event. Proceeds from the open house tours and donations received constitute the fundraising benefit. Designers, vendors, and volunteers donate their time and goods for the event. The 2011 Charlottesville Design House event includes open house tours conducted over a calendar period of 16 days from May 7 — May 22, 2011. There are also supporting functions to provide additional proceeds and promotion: 1) A Hard Hat preview tour on March 20, 2011 at the design house before the designers begin work; 2) A gala event on May 6, 2011 before the open house tours begin, and; 3) Possible private functions in the evenings. A more detailed description to each of these activities is included herein. Location: 1687 Mint Springs Road Crozet, Va. 22932. The primary residence and the grounds surrounding the home will be used for the event. The complete acreage associated with the property is not part of the event. Open House Tours: Date /Time: Saturday, May 7th through Sunday, May 22nd 2011 Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays 10am — 4pm Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 10am — 3pm Wednesday May 18th &Thursday May 19th 4pm — 7pm Closed to the Public on Tuesdays /�('f'�GG�r�C� ,If�2!GL'C' G• ? They will work rotational shifts of approximately 2 -3 hours minimum. Many volunteers come for a full day or multiple shifts. Parking and Traffic Flow: The residence driveway intersects Mint Springs Road in two places (i.e. a loop driveway). The first intersection as you approach the residence from the center of Crozet will be the design house entrance and will be clearly identified. The parking area will be a large field on the property located just to the right of the driveway shortly after pulling in. Both visitors and volunteers will use this parking area. Volunteers will direct the parking operation. Upon leaving, cars will be directed to continue to proceed along the driveway and out the other intersection with Mint Springs Rd. This section of the driveway passes by the house. Volunteers will ensure proper traffic flow. Additional signage will provide direction. Event Flow: From the parking area, visitors walk to a ticket check -in stand located close by in the front yard of the home. After ticket check -in, the attendees will be guided to the start of the tour, which is self - paced. There will be design spaces both inside and outside the house. Outside spaces may be located in the front, rear, and side areas of the house. Volunteers will be located in each individual design space and in selected areas around the property to guide visitors. The driveway area where cars will be exiting will be clearly marked with volunteers in the area. It would consist of non - alcoholic beverages and light snacks. It would be located in a tented area, currently envisioned in the rear of the house on a portion of asphalt that extends off of the main driveway and does not block it. We anticipate an independent, professional vendor running this operation. Hard Hat Preview: Date /Time: Sunday, March 20th 2011; 1pm —5 pm Format: The Hard Hat Preview includes tours of the house prior to its redesign. Food and beverage, to include beer, will be provided in a tented area in the rear of the house, on a circular part of driveway that extends off from the main driveway. Live music will also be provided. The tours will be self -paced with volunteers inside and outside of the house to guide visitors. Visitors are anticipated to arrive throughout the timeframe. Estimated Visitor Attendance: Approximately 200 Parking and traffic flow: Same as for open house tours described above. Restrooms: Same as for open house tours described above Top Hat Gala: Date /Time: Friday, May 6th 2011; 7pm —10pm Format: The Top Hat Gala includes tours of the finished house. Food and beverage, to include wine, will be provided in a tented area in the rear of the house, on a portion of the driveway that extends off from the main driveway. Live music may also be provided. Visitors are expected to arrive mostly for the start of the event and stay for most of the time period. Estimated Visitor Attendance: Approximately 100 Parking and traffic flow: Same as for open house tours described above. Format: There may possibly be private functions that would use the design house space. The individual arranging with the Shelter for this function would have the benefit of a private house tour and the use of the tent in the rear of the property. These individuals may also provide their own food, beverage, and music. Design House volunteers would provide parking operations and tours of the space.
