To the County Engineer:
I operate a small woodworking operation within a portion of a warehouse on the Acme Visible Records site.
The space is currently leased by Blue Ridge Building Supply and I construct custom stairs for them. I am
applying for a zoning clearance to allow visitors of the Monticello Artisan Trail and others to stop -by and see
how custom woodworking is done. I will use a small office area to discuss custom orders with these visitors.
My area of the warehouse contains equipment that you would expect to see in a woodworking shop; table saw,
band saw, drill press, planar, and joiner. I am installing a dust collection system for these machines. I use
gallon -size containers of oil based primer and paint, as well as lacquer thinner and paint thinner. I store these
materials in a separate area of my space and only have the small amount I need available for a specific project at
any given time.
I have addressed the performance standards of Zoning Ordinance Section 18 -4.14 as follows:
Noise : My operation will not create sound or impact noise levels in excess of the values specified in Section
4.14.1.
Vibration: My equipment does not produce vibration in excess of the values specified in 4.14.2.
Glare: Our operation is completely contained within the building. The interior lighting associated with this
operation does not produce glare that is visible beyond the lot line.
Air Pollution: There will be no emission of smoke, odor or gaseous pollutants.
Water Pollution: No liquid wastes will be generated by this operation. Our operation does not represent a
hazard to water quality.
Radioactivity: operation does not require handling of radioactive materials. There will be no radioactive
emissions.
Electrical Interference: My operation does not require any equipment that would generate electrical
disturbances.

Dear Mr. Hunt:
On March 30, 2011, an evaluation of a portion of the referenced structure was performed to
determine its suitability for use as a sales area for crafted wood products. Currently the building
is classified as Group F -1 (moderate- hazard manufacturing), and the proposed use is classified as
Group M (mercantile). The Construction Type is V -B.
Based on our conversation at the site, and the presentation included with the zoning clearance
request, only the south -east quadrant (approximately) is being considered for mercantile use.
Due to the predicted small occupant load, presence of a fire sprinkler system and the readily
accessible means of egress from this area, use of the designated area for crafted wood products
sales is acceptable in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
The information herein is intended to reflect, the concerns of the Virginia Uniform Statewide
Building Code. Please maintain contact with the Zoning Administrator's office to verify
compliance with the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance.
