HomeMy WebLinkAboutARB201100015 Review Comments Preliminary Site Plan 2011-04-294/29/11 email from Margaret Maliszewski to Valerie Long Valerie, I was thinking that shrubs rather than trees were needed, since the screening was for equipment closer to the ground. A rhododendron would be more like what I had in mind. Trees in addition to shrubs would, of course, be fine. When I Google loblolly, I find a mature tree with no branches near the ground, so that wouldn't be good for screening ground equipment. The Green Giant may be a bit conspicuous in that landscape. I think the Xs you've added to mark the location of proposed shrubs accurately identify the area to receive plants. The number and spacing will depend on the species. I would add a few in the general area of "A" on my mark -up. If the trees shown on the plan come out, I'd also add some shrubs in that area ( "B "). Megan, If you have other thoughts, please let us know. Margaret M. Maliszewski, Principal Planner 1! But based on your comment, it looks like I missed the mark. Would something like as shown on the attached be more what you'd intended? (adding shrubs where shown, in addition to what was already proposed) If not, would you mind indicating on the sheet where the plants should go to be consistent with the comment? As for the species, someone else suggested the loblolly pine. Sounds like it is not one that you think will work (and by my googling, appears to not be a shrub at all). Is there a species that you think would work better? Jolly Green Giant Arborvitae has been suggested, or a Rhododendron? Thanks, Valerie From: Margaret Maliszewski [ mailto :MMaliszewski(a)albemarle.org] Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 20114:53 PM To: Long, Valerie Subject: Scottsville School AT &T Valerie, The revised plan for Scottsville AT &T shows 9 Loblolly Pines near the deciduous trees that stand south of the entrance drive. The ARB's condition of approval called for "tall shrubs integrated with the existing landscaping to screen ground equipment from southbound views." The location for the shrubs was the vicinity of the deciduous trees. Were the Loblolly Pines meant to be added instead of the shrubs in this area, or was there confusion about the intended location and the shrubs were placed around the lease area? Thanks.
