[ Joel .DeNunzio @VDOT.virginia.gov] Sent: Wednesday, August 03, 2011 1:48 PM To: Max Greene Cc: Philip Custer Subject: Old Trail Village Phase 9 block 13B Road Plans Old Trail Village Phase 9 block 13B Road Plans Max, I have reviewed the referenced road plan and have the following comments: 1. According to the Old Trail Code of Development, Table 3, the street specifications are: a. Upland Dr. needs to have 2 -11 foot travel lanes and 1 -8 foot parking lane. b. Fielding Run Dr. needs to have 2 -10 foot travel lanes and 2 -8 foot parking lanes. 2. Golf Dr. should extend the street parking 30 feet on both sides of the road towards Fielding Run Dr. 3. The minimum curb radius at entrances is 25 feet. Penny Well Ln entrance to Fielding Run Dr., and the North West quadrant of the intersection of upland and Fielding do not meet the minimum. 4. The minimum width of the entrance off Fielding Run Dr. is 24 feet is it is a low volume entrance to a local road. The minimum radius is 25 feet. 5. Golf Dr. is required to have UD -4. It is recommended that all roads have the underdrains unless there is adequate subgrade drainage. A VDOT inspection of the subgrade will be required to ensure adequate drainage. 6. The maximum thickness of SM -9.5 is 1.5 inches. 7. Show stopping sight distances on all proposed vertical curves. 8. The maximum spread on curb inlets is 10 feet when adjacent to a parking lane or bike lane. The chart shows 13 feet is acceptable. 9. Pipe 9 -38 to 9 -16 is below the minimum 3 feet per second requirement in the VDOT Drainage Manual. 10. Street trees need to be set back a minimum of 30 feet from intersections. Please have the engineer submit a list of revisions when the road plan is re- submitted. Please let me know if there are any questions. Thanks, Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E.
