[ Joel .DeNunzio @VDOT.virginia.gov] Sent: Monday, July 25, 2011 2:27 PM To: Ellie Ray Cc: Philip Custer Subject: RE: SDP - 2011 -00038 Crozet Library Phase I Final Ellie, I reviewed the revised entrance profile and have the following comments: 1. The ramp grade was designed as 8.33% (12 to 1), not 12% as shown on this profile, for a distance of 6 feet, not 5 feet as shown on the profile. They are correctly showing the location of the back of sidewalk horizontally but the elevation at the back of sidewalk as shown on the proposed profile is about 1.5 inches higher than the plan which should not be significant and will not make a difference during construction if it were to be revised. The plan can be approved as shown. 2. Main Street is not yet in the state maintenance system. If the road is accepted by VDOT prior to the construction, a Land Use Permit will be required. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E. VDOT Culpeper Land Development 434 - 589 -5871 joel.denunzioCa vdot.virginia.aov From: DeNunzio, Joel D., P.E. The entrance was built to a CG -9A standard during the Main Street construction although the CG -11 is the standard for commercial entrances. The profile needs to be in accordance with the detail shown in the CG -9A standard with the traversable 4 foot minimum space not to exceed 2% and likely will be longer based on the Main Street plan. After the sidewalk, the first profile break needs to be a maximum 3% algebraic difference, -1 %, for a minimum 10 feet and needs to include a parabolic curve. The maximum break at that point can be up to 8% but the grade should not exceed a total of 8% because it's a commercial entrance. 2. Show the trip generation for the library on the plan. Show the horizontal sight line triangles. 4. The minimum width of a commercial entrance is 30 feet in accordance with the VDOT Road Design Manual Appendix F -85. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E. VDOT Culpeper Land Development 434 - 589 -5871 joel.denunzio(d )vdot.virginia.gov
