RE: SP201100011 Lewis Bridge
Dear Mr. Wyant:
Staff has reviewed your initial submittal for the Lewis Bridge of the Doyles River.
I have a number of questions and comments which I believe should be resolved before your
proposal goes to public hearing. I would be glad to meet with you to discuss these issues.
I received only your brief responses on the application itself. Some sort of plans are needed to
show the commission and board what you intend to build. Some sort of analysis is needed to
show the commission and board what the potential impacts might be, and to demonstrate
compliance with the ordinance. I have attached the section of the Albemarle County Design
Manual which lists the information needed and typically received; a conceptual plan for the
crossing, existing and proposed conditions, cross - sections, together with an engineering study of
the hydrology and hydraulics supporting changes to the floodplain. Typically, a depiction of the
existing, computed, and proposed floodplain limits and elevations is given in plan view. Also
typically, HEC -RAS is used to derive these elevations and limits. Your application also stated you
wanted to build a bridge like the neighbors, so manufacturer's information or shop drawings with
particulars for your site could be provided.
If you have written VDOT approval for the new driveway location, and Army Corps and DEQ
approval for the bridge, pleas include them with your next submittal.

Fees — MAKE CHECKS OUT TO COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE; PAY AT COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Recently, the Board of Supervisors amended the zoning ordinance to require that applicants pay
for the notification costs for public hearings. Prior to scheduling a public hearing with the Planning
Commission, payment of the following fees is needed:
$ Cost for newspaper advertisement
Cost for notification of adjoining owners (minimum $200 + actual postage /$1 per
owner after 50 adjoining owners)
$ Total amount due prior to Planning Commission public hearing
Prior to the Board of Supervisor's public hearing, payment of the newspaper advertisement for the
Board hearing needed.
$ Additional amount due prior to Board of Supervisors public hearing
$ Total amount for all notifications
Notification of adjoining owners and an associated fee are not needed unless a deferral takes
place and adjoining owners need to be notified of a new date. Fees may be paid in advance and a
payment for both the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors public hearings may be paid
at the some time.
