Road North Garden, Va. 22959 RE: ARB- 2011 -133: Tip Top Sign (Tax Map 78, Parcel 10A) Dear Mr. Grady: The Albemarle County Architectural Review Board, at its meeting on February 6, 2012, reviewed the above -noted petition. Regarding the Certificate of Appropriateness: The Board, by a vote of 4:0, approved the above -noted request for Certificate of Appropriateness as proposed with the following conditions: Revise the sign drawing to include all proposed materials for the sign cabinet and the brick base. Include the product ID for the brick and mortar on the sign drawing. The brick base should complement that of the adjacent Free Bridge Auto and CarMax signs. Revise the site /landscape drawing to: a) Show the proposed locations for the relocated Cherry and Dogwood trees. Include a note on the drawing stating that the trees will be replaced with like species should they not survive, at a planting height equal to that of the existing trees. b) Show the limits of the extended planting bed. A planting bed with an irregular, natural form would be appropriate. Include the location, type, spacing and quantity of juniper proposed. Shore Juniper, Blue Pacific, with its 1 foot height and 3 to 5 foot spread would be an acceptable plant material. Please provide: 1. Two full sets of revised drawings addressing each of these conditions. Include updated ARB revision dates on each drawing. 2. A memo including detailed responses indicating how each condition has been satisfied. If changes other than those requested have been made, identify those changes in the memo also. Highlighting the changes in the drawing with "clouding" or by other means will facilitate review and approval. 3. The attached "Revised Application Submittal' form. This form must be returned with your revisions to ensure proper tracking and distribution. Motion for Recommendation to Board of Zoning Appeals: The Board completed an advisory review of the above -noted request to move an existing cabinet sign from a pole- mounted location to a more visible location as a monument style sign, with reduced setback. The Board by a vote of 4:0, forwarded the following recommendation to the Board of Zoning Appeals: Because the proposed location of the sign, as viewed from the Entrance Corridor, will appear coordinated with that of the adjacent Free Bridge Auto and Car Max signs, and will thereby contribute to a more consistent and unified appearance along the Corridor, the ARB has no objection to the proposed zero setback.
