Subject: Site Review Meeting Comments May P, 2012 site review meeting
Dear Mr. Brooks:
Below are VDOT's comments on the Site Plans for the April 19'", 2012 Site Review Committee Meeting:
SDP - 2012 -00022 Albemarle Health and Rehab Center - Preliminary (Megan Yaniglos)
1. Between station 10 +00 and 12 +00 there appears to be a lane transition or a lane drop from two to one lane
that does not meet the lane drop required length. If the ultimate typical section of the road is to be two
lanes, it does not seem that there should be two lanes entering the road with a lane drop a couple hundred
feet into the new road.
2. There is a waterline shown from station 10 +15 to 12 +25 that doesn't appear to connect to any other lines.
There is also a proposed waterline shown from station 14 +000 to 15 +75 shown in the pavement. The
proposed waterlines need to be located behind the curb.
3. The proposed contours no not match the typical section, specifically from the left edge of pavement to the
centerline of the road.
4. Right of station 10 +00 the curb and sidewalk should tie into the existing properly and show the location of
the CG -12.
5. Show horizontal alignment data.
6. An appropriate barricade needs to be placed at the end of the proposed road.
7. Add curb ramps at the site entrance.
8. Commercial entrances on streets other than local streets are required to be a minimum 30 feet wide for the
entrance throat length of 35 feet.
9. The sight distance looking left from the entrance is obstructed by the cut slope. This slope should either be
laid back to allow adequate sight distance or the entrance can be relocated farther up the grade into a
straighter section of road to allow adequate sight lines.
10. Sight distances for the vertical curves at stations 14 +47 and 16 +19 need to be in accordance with the grade
requirements in table 2 -5, F -33 of the VDOT Road Design Manual. The vertical curve lengths need to be
increased to allow for 227 foot stopping sight distances.
11. Complete Road and Drainage plans will be required with the final site plan submission.
