Mark,
I am sending this as a follow up to our phone conversation earlier this afternoon. You had indicated a willingness to revise
the proposed shade of yellow to Pantone 109 as suggested by staff. As discussed, I contacted the ARB chair and he
directed staff to approve your sign proposal administratively with that change.
My email of May 8"' contained a few additional "housekeeping" revisions to the drawing (notes to add). Here they are
again:
Issue: Needed Sign Notation:
Recommendation: Revise the sign drawing to include the following:
• Labels indicating the proposed materials in the sign (eg. wood, metal, vinyl, paint).
• A note indicating the rockwork in the sign base is to match existing rockwork in the walls.
• A note indicating the sign is non - illuminated.
Also, please revise the sign drawing to include the dimensions (length & height) of each row of text and the diameter of
the green logo. I need this information for the approval letter.
Emailing the revised drawing back to me would be best. At that point, I will be in a position to draft the Certificate of
Appropriateness (ARB) approval letter.
Thanks,
Brent

Mark,
I have completed my review of this application for compliance with the Architectural Review Board (ARB) Sign
Guidelines and identified the following issues that would need to be addressed for an administrative approval (Certificate
of Appropriateness).
Issue: Sign Colors
ARB Sign Guidelines state that overly intense colors are prohibited. They also state that the colors must be harmonious
with each other. The proposed yellow: PMS 107 is considered an overly intense shade of yellow. The ARB has previously
indicated that the lower three colors on a Pantone page (7 colors per page) are the appropriate shades; PMS 107 is second
down from the top of the page and therefore not in that range.
• Recommendation: The ARB has recently approved Yellow: PMS 109 located fourth from the bottom (mid way)
on the Pantone page for another sign proposal. Staff believes this to be the appropriate shade since the lower three
colors on this page are not considered shades of yellow. Would you be willing to revise the background color to
PMS 109 if the ARB were to direct staff accordingly? Please note this is not the PMS 1225 suggested in Margaret
Maliszewski's email of April 2, 2012 but rather a shade of yellow much closer to PMS 107.
Issue: Zoning Approval:
Zoning Permit Planner, Stewart Wright, has not signed off on this permit and has indicated that additional information is
needed.
• Recommendation: Provide Stewart Wright, Permit Planner (Phone: 434 - 296 -5832, x 3024, Email:
swright2galbemarle.org) with the additional information he needs to complete his review.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
