RE: L0R #1 for SDP - 2011 -32, Tax Map /Parcel #061 WO -02 -OB -00300
Dear Mr. Pohl,
This letter approves your submitted Letter of Revision for the above referenced site plan. The letter of revision
proposes the following changes:
1. Eliminate the oil /water separator and associated piping and canopy -pad inlets from the project. This
request is being made because the oil /water separator is not required by any State or Federal law as
confirmed with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (refer to attached email dated August 14,
2012).
2. As a result of eliminating the oil /water separator, adjust post - development drainage areas. Spot
elevations were revised to have positive flow off of the canopy pad. A revised WPO application has been
submitted with this Letter of Revision.
3. Eliminate "dog- house" stormwater manhole 103 and reroute drainage pipe from STIR 1.07 to the existing
manhole EX2. This was done to simplify the construction and save costs. A revised WPO application has
been submitted with this Letter of Revision to address this change.
4. Raise the finished floor elevation of the building by 4- inches to provide a minimum 1.5% slope in the front
drive lane.
5. Revise the size of Filterra Unit FT -1 to be a 8'x4' unit. The size was mislabeled in the Filterra Schedule
and Filterra documentation is submitted to show the 8'x4' unit will allow up to 0.22 acres in contributing
drainage area, which is what is draining to the unit.
Engineering and inspections both reviewed the proposed changes and each had no objection. The associated
WPO application (WPO 201200077) has also been approved by engineering.
This is the first (1s`) Letter of Revision for this site. Three (3) Letters of Revision are allowed, after which all
required changes must submitted in the form of a site plan amendment.

Ellie,
Please refer to email from DEQ below stating an oil /water separator is not required by DEQ. Are we clear now to
proceed with removing this from our plans?
Thanks,
Frank

Subject: RE: Oil Water Separators
Mr. Pohl,
DEQ does not regulate storm water generated at retail facilities and does not require an oil -water separator for the type of
retail facility described below. A permit from DEQ would be required to discharge process wastewater such as
wastewater generated by washing the fueling pads or washing vehicles at the facility. Please let me know if you have any
questions.

Subject: Oil Water Separators
Greg,
I am the civil engineer for a client who is redeveloping an existing convenience store /gas filling station — they are
demolishing the entire site, removing the old tanks, installing new tanks, and building a new store, including canopy and
islands.
Albemarle County has asked me to show that an oil -water separator is not required for this type of facility. There will be
10 fueling stations and my understanding is that the intent of the OWS would be to capture the oil /gas from the canopy
pad incase of a spill (we are already providing the required stormwater treatment for the site via other measures). It is
also my understanding that the plumbing code excludes stations that do not service vehicles and this facility DOES NOT
service vehicles.
Any help on clearing up this issue is appreciated.
Thank you,
Frank
