Gary,
I have completed my review of your original sign application (drawings) and identified the following issues
needing to be adequately addressed for an administrative approval.
Freestanding Sign
Monument Base Material: ARB Sign Guidelines state that materials used in both the sign and support structures
should be complementary. They should also support the aesthetics of the building /complex being served by the
sign.
• Provide a sample of the brick proposed for the monument base. Revise the sign drawing to include the
product ID for the brick.
Sign Color: The proposed Red PMS 485 is a shade of red the ARB has determined to be inappropriate for signs.
Red PMS 186 is an acceptable substitute that can be administratively approved.
• Revise the sign drawing to by replacing the Red PMS 485 with Red PMS 186 for the freestanding sign.
Sign Landscaping: ARB Sign Guidelines recommend the use of ground cover, shrubs and/or trees to integrate
freestanding signs into the overall landscape.
• Revise the sign proposal to include a landscape proposal for shrubs around the base of the sign.
Awning Sign:
The proposed awning requires a building permit. It does not appear that one has been applied for.
The proposed awning due to its overall size, dome shape and red color has an oversized, awkward and
unresolved appearance with the building. The awning drawing states it is to be illuminated; however, you have
verbally indicated it is not to be illuminated.
The proposed Red PMS 485 for the awning is a shade of red the ARB has determined to be inappropriate and it
does not coordinate with the building colors of dark gray, cream and white (see attached photo). Staff has
determined that the proposed awning will be visible from the Rio Road East Entrance Corridor year round, with
visibility increased in the winter months.
• Revise the proposal by redesigning the awning to a shape, size and color that coordinates with the
building.
• Consider replacing the awning proposal with wall signage. Staff would be happy to discuss options.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have questions or concerns.
