Dear Mr. Brooks:
Below are VDOT's comments on the Site Plans for the September 20"', 2012 Site Review Committee Meeting:
SP- 2012 -00024 Verizon Wireless Va Dept of Forestry - Buckingham Circle -Tier II (Sarah Baldwin)
1. No comments
SP- 2012 -00025 Verizon Wireless - Piedmont College -Tier II (Brent Nelson)
1. No comments
SDP - 2012 -00053 Albemarle County Firearms Range (Christopher Perez)
1. Show the grade and entrance dimensions coming off the existing state route 704.
2. An entrance permit will be required for the connection to Route 704 and the location of the
end state maintenance sign will be needed.
SDP - 2012 -00054 Old Trail Village Blocks 1 and 3C- Preliminary (Megan Yaniglos)
1. As discussed in the pre - application meeting for this site, VDOT cannot maintain most
features of this road due to its design features. A maintenance agreement for almost all
maintenance items on this proposed road would be needed for this to be a state route. In
consideration of the need for all maintenance to be under agreement and that many design
features are not within VDOT standards, this should be proposed to be a private road.
2. The lane widths for the entrance and exit to the roundabout need to follow the median curb
line until it intersects with the centerline on the road. This plan is proposing lane widths a the
throat of the roundabout of 6.5 feet.
3. The connections at Mornington Court should be closer to the center of the block, at a
minimum they need to be located outside of the lane transitions to the roundabout.
4. Parking needs to be set back 40 feet from intersecting roads.
SUB- 2012 -00095 Ton T. Dinh -Final Plat (Joanne Purtsezova)
1. The speed on Route 748 is 35 mph. Intersection sight distances are 390 feet for this speed in
accordance with the VDOT Road Design Manual, Appendix F -35.
SUB- 2012 -00097 Dunlora Forest - Preliminary Subdivision Plat (Megan Yaniglos)
1. Right of way should not be vacated from Route 631 between Pen Park Road and the site
entrance.
2. Right of way needs to be dedicated around the signal controls. This is shown properly on the
last page of the plat but not on previous pages.
SUB- 2012 -00103 Old Trail Village Block 14 — Preliminary Plat (Megan Yaniglos)
1. Show traffic projection on Fielding Run Dr.
2. The required intersection sight distance is 280 feet. This plan shows all intersection sight
distances at 200 feet.
3. The proposed stop sign on Glen Valley Dr does not appear to meet the traffic needs but this
cannot be determined without projections on Fielding Run Dr.
4. Entrances need to have a minimum width of 24 feet for a throat length of 35 feet.
5. The travel lane and parking lane widths do not match the street specs in the proposed table.
A 32 foot street width does meet VDOT standards but travel lanes should not be shown at 8
feet.
6. Road and Drainage plans will be required for this plan.
SUB - 2012 -00104 Old Trail Village Blocks 1 and 3C- Preliminary Subdivision Plat (Megan Yaniglos)
1. The proposed road should be private as stated in site plan comment.
2. The right of way width for the proposed road does not meet VDOT standards.
