(VDOT) [ Joel .DeNunzio @VDOT.virginia.gov] Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2012 10:07 AM To: Megan Yaniglos Cc: Philip Custer; Seale, Dennis L. (VDOT) Subject: SDP- 2012 -00008 Claudius Center Final Site Plan Megan, I have reviewed the subject final site plan and have the following comments: Library Ave has not yet been accepted in to the state maintenance system and any permitting for construction on this road will need to through Albemarle County. Any changes to this plan however need to be reviewed by VDOT because the road is proposed to be state maintained. The sewer line in the road is acceptable as shown. Utility patching, milling and overlay will be required for the sewer installation. This needs to be addressed with either the county permitting of construction on Library Avenue or with the VDOT permit for construction in Crozet Avenue. The following is required for the section of public road, Barnes Dr., proposed with this plan: a. Mandatory inspections at the following phases are required for roads that are proposed to be state maintained: Installation of any enclosed drainage system before it is covered Installation of any enclosed utility placements within the right -of -way before being covered Construction of the cuts and fills, including field density tests, before placement of roadbed base materials A final pavement design, based on actual soil characteristics and certified tests, shall be completed and approved before the pavement structure is placed Placement of base materials, including stone depths, consistent with the approved pavement design, prior to placement of the paving course or courses, followed by field density and moisture tests and the placement of a paving course as soon as possible Construction of pavement, including depth and density, upon completion as part of the final inspection. The contractor is responsible for contacting VDOT a minimum of one week prior to each of the above phases of construction to schedule an inspection. Failure of the contractor to schedule these inspections will require additional testing of the roads at the discretion of VDOT or may lead to the roads not being eligible for state maintenance. b. Any revisions to this plan shall require VDOT review and approval. c. Prior to final inspection of the proposed state maintained roads, VDOT will require as -built plans and the subdivision plat for review and approval along with other materials as described in the SSAR 24VAC30- 92 -70. VDOT has no objections to the approval of this plan conditional upon concurrence of the above items. Thanks Joel Joel DeNunzio, P.E.
