Dennis - I am sorry that I missed your call this morning. Margaret Maliszewski told me she met with you regarding my
comments and she provided me with the materials you brought in.
In reviewing this with Margaret, I realized that I made a mistake and I am very sorry for that. I forgot that the
Architectural Review Board has developed and approved sign design criteria that are specifically for the building you are
located in. Those criteria are in the attachment "Rio 29 ". They require that your sign be a panel sign type and do not allow
for an internally illuminated cabinet sign such as you are proposing.
The approved criteria also require that the sign be located in the sign band above the business entrance. Since your
business entrance is covered up by the new pergola, we would allow you to locate the sign on the new pergola but it could
not be a projecting sign. It would need to be located parallel with the facade of the pergola. You could illuminate the sign
with an external light fixture shining on the sign. There are requirements for that light that I can explain to you.
Your proposed sign is 4.5 square feet in size and Rebecca Ragsdale, Permit Planner, has indicated you can have up to 31.5
square feet of sign area. This means you could have more than one sign on the pergola.
Your proposed sign design is very attractive and could be approved as a panel sign —just not an internally illuminated
cabinet sign.
Once again, I am very sorry for this mistake in my previous email to you. I would be happy to meet with you to work all
this out. I am available to meet with you tomorrow or Friday. I do have other meetings so I would suggest that you call me
so we can set up a time to meet.

Dennis — I am the planner who handles the review of your sign application for the Architectural Review Board
(ARB). The following issues have been identified that will need to be addressed for my administrative approval.
Page 5 of the application entitled "Certification That Notice of the Application Has Been Provided To
The Landowner" (see attachment) does not have the landlord's name filled in. Please revise to include
the name certifying that you have in fact notified the landlord of your sign permit application.
2. The sign drawing does not indicate the color of the sign cabinet frame. Please revise the drawing to
indicate the color and provide a sample of the color or indicate the Pantone color number equivalent on
the drawing.
3. Either provide a color sample of the proposed red sign color or revise the drawing to include the Pantone
color number equivalent.
4. The Zoning Ordinance and the ARB Sign Guidelines require that the background of your sign be
opaque, non - illuminated, at night. Only the text Sultan Kebab AUTHENTIC TURKISH CUISINE can be
illuminated at night. If this is not clear, please call me for further explanation. Please revise the sign
drawing to include the following note:
"The sign background shall be opaque, only the text shall illuminate at night. "
Question: The sign drawing states that the sign is two - sided. Does one side face the front of the
restaurant?
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
