ARB 201300177, Gardens Shopping Center Sign, Staff Comments
Noel - The following issues remain that will need to be addressed for an administrative approval.
Sign Location/Sign LandscWin /g_Sign Lighting
• The sign location and sign alignment shown on Sheet 3 of 3 does not match that shown on the previously approved
planting plan.
• The sign alignment on the planting plan is perpendicular to the right -of -way but not on Sheet 3 of 3.
• The sign location on the planting plan is more centered between the edge of the parking lot and the entrance
drive to the shopping center. On Sheet 3 of 3, the sign location is off - center (and angled) so the previously
approved planting layout would not fit.
• The previously approved planting plan shows ground - mounted lighting. That reference needs to be removed
since that lighting is no longer proposed. You would also need to remove the staff "Approval (& approval
date)" reference on the drawing since this is a new planting proposal.
• The sign drawing title block says, in red, "Sign Placement May Change ". Please remove that note as the sign
location and alignment are part of the ARB approval.
Sign Structure Depth:
• I could not find the sign structure depth on the drawing. Please revise the drawing to indicate.
Please call me should you have any questions or concerns.

Brent we've finally gotten somewhere with this proposal. We are going to use the exact same landscaping plan that was
originally submitted. We've partnered with Townsend Landscaping who will be handling the plantings. I've attached the
rendering that you sent from the previous proposal that we're referring to as well as the revised sign rendering from
your previous comments; please let me know what else you may need from me in order to complete the review.
Thank you.

Brent I'd like to request an indefinite hold on this permit application as we work to address the issues you highlighted in
your review.
Thank you.

Importance: High
Noel — Today I discovered that the SP Action Letter (attached), allowing an off -site sign for this location, has a minimum
letter height condition of 2.75 ". Please revise the sign drawing to indicate the height of all the text.
Sorry for not discovering this sooner.

Noel - I have completed my review of the above -noted sign application. The following issues have been
identified that will need to be addressed for an administrative approval.
Sign Colors:
1. The sign drawing shows two different shades of green on the sign but only one green color is called out
in the legend.
2. The text color for the tenant panels is not called out on the drawing.
Sign Landscaping_
ARB Sign Guidelines state: Use ground covey, shrubs and /or trees to integrate freestanding signs into the overall
landscape development of the site. The planting proposal shown on the sign drawing does not meet this guideline. It
is not a design that integrates the sign with the overall landscape. I have attached the previously approved planting
plan (ARB 201000032, approved in 2010) for a freestanding sign in the same location.
Sign Location/Easements:
Stewart Wright, Zoning Permit Planner, has noted that the sign location is in a water /sewer easement and will
therefore require ACSA approval. He has forwarded the sign permit to them for review.
Miscellaneous:
1. The depth of the sign cabinet is not indicated on the drawing.
2. The Carmike Cinema is listed as a tenant on the drawing; however, they are no longer in business.
Revise the drawing accordingly.
3. The sign drawing indicates the width of the tenant panel is 3'; however, that does not seem possible. It
appears that the tenant panel would be less than 3' from the other measurements provided.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
