Commissioner March 31, 2014 Mr. Brent Nelson County of Albemarle Department of Community Development 401 McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22902 Re: SDP2013 -00046 Gillenwater Property Tier II Personal Wireless Service Facility (AT &T Wireless 648 Dry Bridge Road) Dear Mr. Nelson: We have reviewed the subject facility in the field and reviewed the plans identified as AT &T site number CV404A as submitted by BC Architects Engineers and dated 1/14/.14. Per the attached letter from the design engineer, should there be a structural failure, the tower collapse would be no further than 56' from the center of the structure, which would approximately 10 to 15 feet from the edge of pavement of Route 708. Under these conditions, the fall zone of the tower would not impact Route 708 and VDOT has no objections to the proposed facility as designed. The applicant will need to obtain a Land Use Permit from this office for the proposed entrance and any necessary work to be performed on the State Right -of -Way. EIA /TIA -222G. The tower and foundation will meet the requirements outlined in the 2012 IBC. 2. Wind loading will be designed based on a minimum 90 -mph basic wind speed and a minimum 1/2" of radial ice to design the steel structure. Designer shall contact all local governing officials to determine if minimum standards apply. 3. Foundations will be designed in accordance with the latest version of ACI and actual geotechnical values based on site data. Normal soils assumption will not be used. 4. Tower and foundation design calculations will be submitted to engineer for final approval. 5. The tower and foundation shall be designed, manufactured, and constructed to have the capacity to accommodate 1- carrier's full antenna arrays. 6. In the event of structural failure, the tower will be designed to collapse no farther than 56' from the center of the structure. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
