The sign drawing is incomplete as follows: • A Pantone number for the light gray background color was not indicated. If necessary, a sample of the background color can be provided in place of the Pantone number. • A close up photo of the light fixture showing the fixture housing, bulb shade and an indication of the bulb wattage. If available, a cutsheet of the fixture can be provided in place of the photo. Note: the light fixture has not been reviewed and approved by the ARB previously. A copy of the approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria (CSC) for Woodbrook Shopping Center is attached. This sign proposal does not meet those criteria as follows: Approved CSC text color: White. o Proposed text colors: Red: PMS 7427, Orange: PMS 138, Yellow: PMS 143 and Gray: PMS 432 Approved CSC background color: Blue (The shade of blue shall coordinate with the shades of blue used for the backgrounds of existing signs in the shopping center.) o Proposed background color: gray Approved CSC number of colors: No more than four colors shall be used for each sign in the shopping center. The background color is counted as one of the colors. o Proposed number of colors: five This proposal cannot be administratively approved by staff unless revised to address the incompleteness of the application and meet the currently approved CSC, both as noted above. This proposal cannot be approved by the Architectural Review Board unless the ARB conducts a full review approving the sign proposal and a revision to the CSC allowing for the proposed text colors, background color and number of sign colors. For that to happen, the following would be required from the applicant: • A revised sign drawing addressing the incompleteness of the application as noted above. • A letter or email from the applicant requesting a full review before the ARB and a revision to the approved CSC. The comprehensive sign criteria to be revised would need to be called out in the letter or email. • A letter or email from the property owner requesting a revision to the approved CSC. The comprehensive sign criteria to be revised would need to be called out in the letter or email. • All of this would have to be received no later than Wednesday, June 4r'' for the application to be scheduled for the ARB's Monday, July 7h meeting. That meeting would be at 1 p.m. in Room 241 of the County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road. The applicant would be required to be at the meeting. I accidentally found it mixed with the sign permit downstairs. It will likely be next week before I get to it but I will email you the issues. Margaret will hopefully be back next week so we can set a date to go to the ARB. Regarding the Stacy's Music proposal, that is a refacing that will require a sign permit and ARB application. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Brent Brent W. Nelson Planner Planning Services Department of Community Development County of Albemarle 401 McIntire Rd. Two quick questions if I may: 1. Can you let me know where we stand with the sign permit application for Al Carbon Chicken (1871 Seminole Trail)? I know that she wants to take this before the ARB to try and get signage that doesn't conform to the CSC approved. Is this on your list or should I reach out elsewhere? 2. Stacy's Music wants us to produce and install new faces for their existing sign at RHSC and in doing so want to change the face color from Red to White (see attached for picture of existing sign) with bronze trim -cap. What would be the best way for us to get this reviewed /approved /documented? Is this something that would just require a revision of the existing COA or will we need to submit a new application? Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
