RE: AR13- 2014 -96: The Square Sign
Dear Mr. Welch,
We have received the above -noted sign application and I have determined that it may be reviewed as a county -wide
Certificate of Appropriateness for a sign. The following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent with
the design guidelines that apply to a county -wide Certificate for a sign.
1. Architectural Review Board (ARB) Sign Guidelines state that three colors or fewer are more appropriate
for signs in the Entrance Corridor (black and white are counted as colors). They also indicate that color
compatibility between signs in a multiple business property shall be maintained. Revise the sign drawing to
list a palette of three colors total, and the equivalent Pantone color numbers, for text and graphics on the
individual tenant panels
or
Revise the sign drawing to include the following note: `All tenant panel text shall be black. There is no
limit to graphic colors as long as the total number per tenant panel is limited to three and they contribute
to a coordinated appearance. "
2. ARB Sign Guidelines state that lettering shall be in proportion to the overall sign and shall not overcrowd
the sign area. The sign text 5799, THE SQUARE LEASING & MANAGEMENT, 989 -7006 appears to
overcrowd the sign. Revise the sign drawing by reducing the text size to maintain 4 to 6 inches of clear
space on the top, bottom and sides for the text. Dimension the drawing show the number of inches of clear
space at the top, bottom and sides.
3. It appears that the sign is not to be illuminated, internally or externally. If correct, add a note to the drawing
stating that the sign is not to be illuminated.
Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not proceed with
these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period associated with your
original submittal allowing you as much time as needed to make your revisions. Once complete, emailing the
revised drawings to me is preferred. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to
approve your application. Failure to respond to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on
the application without further revisions.
If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible. I look forward to receiving your
revisions and completing this review with an approval letter.
Sincerely,
Brent Nelson
