To the County Engineer,
Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is a non - profit organization dedicated to helping
people with disabilities and disadvantages overcome barriers to employment. We
provide workforce development programs that empower people to achieve and sustain
a level of independence to participate more fully in life.
Our programs are primarily funded through the collection and sale of donated goods.
We presently operate 2 retail stores in Charlottesville, another in Ruckersville, and have
recently opened a store in Lake Monticello.
Goodwill intends to use 1810 Broadway Street as a transit warehouse to facilitate the
movement of material to and from our retail locations in the Charlottesville and
surrounding areas.
We have addressed the performance standards of Zoning Ordinance Section 18 -4.14:
Noise: Our operation will not create sound or impact noise levels in excess of the values
specified in Section 4.14.1. We have a tree covered embankment directly behind the
building on the north west boundary. We will not operate the cooling unit on the north
west side of the building (used by the previous tenant). The lot is bordered with trees
along the street frontage. The south east side of the building is separated by
approximately 180 feet of open space from the neighboring light industrial site at 1822
Broadway Street. Our major sources of noise are: 1). Delivery trucks loading and
unloading 2) Placement of empty trailers at dock /s when loaded trailers are removed
from the site.

Vibration: We operate no equipment for purposes other than material handling in our
warehouse. Our operation will not cause earthborne vibration exceeding specified
values.
Glare: Our operation is completely contained within our building. Interior lighting
associated with this operation does not produce glare that is visible beyond the lot line.
Air Pollution: There will be no emissions of smoke, odor or gaseous pollutants.
Water Pollution: No liquid wastes will be generated by this operation. Our operation
does not represent a hazard to water quality.
Radioactivity: Our operation does not require handling of radioactive materials. There
will be no radioactive emissions.
Electrical Interference: Our operation does not require any equipment that would
generate electrical disturbances.
