Following the visit with the hea b deponent I visited the sit` to Observe conditions_ The obj cct of these inve,5 f - i= was to assess tine potential for enllar to accommodate up to 200 ernpioyees who could work at the facility. a gmg the seppic s;. stem includes my findings andrecoglmeudations. t?' proposed e%pansion. This Tcport Mr. McClelland provided nae with a COPY Of the Orlgirtal health permit dated Mq 25,1971copy anachea7. The perm i documents the presence of aevetl - 100' long drain linos 2' wide and Iocated to the east of the existing w=house building Mt. McClelland said that be previously evaEu=d the system about a. year' ago and conciudul friar, while it does not meet today'i stand rd5, it oan be usedfor upto 65 employees. The existing systern is located t1nder the PrOPosed Building B, but Mr. McClelland was riot sure exactly where it is. Should any a.dditiottal "Pacity be requir8c * Mr. McClelland said thatthe mn-ent rokul4ons must be met in replacing and updating the sy mm. At the time of our initial canversauons, you requested that I comiderthe possibility of a Drip Bisltosal 5yst -m with the-drip tubing to be located southwest pfthe existing warehouse building From my site observations it appears at The area southwest of the existing warehouse is CUt 17Cly fill soil. The health do paxtmeat regula ions do not athllow for the installation of any septic system in till soil. I recommend the use of a Micro PAST Aerobic Treatment Unit for sewn, treatment. Attached is a brochure descr7bing the FAST uzut Additional Infprmation pn the FAST unit can be obtained from the web at B=Useofthe sizeofthe proposed s>rstern, approval tivould not befhroughthe Alberrmrle County HeaEth DepxUnent, but through the state Department of EnvironrnenW Quality_ There are C t=ently a number of'similar systems in use in Albemarle County, 04 -12 -02 15:32 TO' FROM: P02 04-'12`2002 FRI 15:19 F". ! ifi.3 :tjl? i 2- 2G 2 F *: c O"! MART I I I "HGR J I NC" ` 349717453 2 With the FAST unit the septic effluent would first go into a 2000 gallon Septic tank and th= to a 3000 gallon concrete tank which holds the FAST unit. The water emerges from the PAST un t cleaned to the point that, following chlorinarion and de chlorination, the state will allow it to be discharged directly into a dry ditch, a lake, or a Ovam. Two potential discharge points were identified and are shown on the attached drawing. In order to discharge in this manner, youmusteitherown the property for a distance of500' downstream from the discharge, or have a p=anent easement from, the adjacent property owner itAt allows the eftent to cross his property to the 500' distance. The downstream distance can lye tOduced to 250' if a single pass sand filter is placed direG$y bc6= the discharge. From scaled mmurvtrwnts, you do not have the required 250' at either potential discharge location and would, therefore, nead to obtain an easement, Further evaluation will. be necessary in order to determine whether either of the two pot+sntiai discharge locations meats all of the states rcqufieMeras, however, at first glance, both would appear to be suitable. De -- PP pestling on the disclxne-locati ari selected., a pump tam may be required to move the water- to the discharge point. I est mate the cost df the proposed FAST system to be approximately 542,040.00 to $477,000.00. This estimate is based on.priees tluoted by AtmaicwManufactaing Co., Inc., I.1:anover MRVIH s, 2it►d West Sand and Oravel- The estimate also includes an=wned 54,000.00 to $5,000.00 for-the design and $ 15,000.00 to SlS,OOfl.00 for labor. ,Should you be able to obtain an easement to a distance of 500' downstream of the discharge, a cost Savings of S5,OOD_00 or more -eould be reaiizc,-i.
