RE: ARB201400132, Crozet Artisans Sign
Dear Patti,
We have received your above - referenced sign application. Your application was incomplete. We cannot
begin review until the missing information is submitted. The following items were missing from your
submittal:
1. You incorrectly filed the application as a sign refacing ($55 review fee) with no ARB review
required. This is a new wall (door) sign with an $85.60 review fee and ARB (Architectural Review
Board) review is required since this location is in an Entrance Corridor. The $120 ARB review fee is
waived since there are approved Comprehensive Sign Criteria established for this development.
2. You provided only Part A, Sheet 1 of the application/checklist. A completed application/checklist is
required. The application/checklist is attached. You need to complete, and include, the submittal
items required on Section 2, Wall Signs (page 3) and sign and date on page 4.
3. Regarding the ARB review:
a. You need to provide a color enlargement of the sign (in addition to the rendering of the sign
on the building). The sign in the rendering is too small to read in detail. This enlargement
should:
i. Show dimensions of the sign (width & height).
ii. Indicate all sign materials (e.g. metal, paint, vinyl etc).
iii. Indicate the Pantone color number for all sign colors (or provide physical color
samples).
iv. Assuming the sign is not to be illuminated, include a note indicating that.
b. In the photo- rendering provided, the raised panel door has been "clouded out ". Revise the
rendering so that the raised panel door shows clearly behind the sign panel.
c. The same ARB General Sign Guidelines that applied to your Bark Avenue sign proposal
apply here:
i. The wall sign's size must coordinate with the architectural element's size.
ii. The sign should not over -crowd the architectural element, the wall, or the sign area.
iii. Wall signs must integrate with the building's architecture.
iv. The sign placement should not obscure architectural features or details, (such as
cornices, windows, columns, pilasters and paneling).
The door panel should show around all edges of the sign panel — in effect framing the
sign. The photo- rendering should be dimensioned to indicate the width of the door area
showing on the sides.
Please re- submit your sign drawings, including the missing information. (You may email the revised
drawings to me at bnelsongalbemarle.org or send the copies by U.S. mail.) If the missing items are
received within 15 days of the date of this letter, we will proceed with review, and the submittal date will
be adjusted according to the date of your resubmittal. If the missing items are not received within 15 days
of the date of this letter, the application will be denied and a new fee will be required to submit a new
application.
If you have any questions about this process, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Brent W. Nelson
