RE: 29 North Quarry — Rivanna Quarry
Dear Mrs. McCulley,
Hurt Investment Company would like to activate the quarry it holds which fronts Route 643 in
Albemarle County near the airport. The parcels included under the permit are TM 45 -58, 45 -60,
45 -61, 46 -59H, 46 -59A1. We don't anticipate a sizable operation, but we would like, to crush and
remove stone from the site. The property is zoned RA and is in the Natural Resource Extraction
Overlay District. Having reviewed the Zoning Ordinance, we are requesting a permit from you,
the zoning administrator, to comply with section 30.4.03 of the zoning ordinance. In order to
assist you with your assessment, we have included informational materials in this packet in
addition to our operation plan approved by the Virginia Department of Minerals, Mines and
Energy (DMME).
Please find accompanying this letter the following:
A zoning compliance analysis
• This analysis reviews each relevant zoning ordinance in the NR overlay
district and describes how Rivanna Quarry shall comply.
Important correspondence with the DMME
• A letter from the DMME approving the renewal of Permit 05742AB in 2007
• Confirmation of the transfer of Permit 05742AB from Martin Marietta
Materials, Inc. to Hurt Investment Company
• Approval of the adjusted acreage of the permit area after the removal of the
construction yard at the north section of the site from permit area
• A map showing the active mining area and total permit area
The current operation plan approved by the DMME
• A written narrative describing the operations and procedure
• The approved operation plan which snaps the location of the associated uses
