Response to Access Road Waiver Request (2- Mar -15)
16 -Dec 2014: Engineering comment on project included this item: "Normally, an access serving multiple uses is
designed as a road, with minimum VDOT standards. In the rural areas this is typically 18' pavement width with
4' shoulders and a ditch section. The Zoning ordinance calls for this to be an access aisle with curb and gutter
and a 20' minimum width."
26 -Feb 2015: Item above discussed with Applicant, OFD, and design firm. As follow -up to discussion, in response
to Engineering guidance, design firm submitted Access Road Waiver request dated 2 -Mar 2015 [ref file].
12 -Mar 2015: Site review* substantiates that at present and for the intended use, existing 14 ft. to 15 ft. wide access
travelway with shoulders, entrance design approved by VDOT, and caution signs placed at site entrance /exit, are
sufficient to support 2- Mar -15 access road waiver request.
Specifically:
Existing condition: 14.5'± wide paved access with shoulders —24' clear width
Low volume; clear sight distance; adequate shoulders
Manageable length access
Unchanged use
Existing conditions and proposed use lend support for waiver request.
Any reviewable change in use, ownership, or Amendment to Site Plan may be basis for reevaluation of access design
requirements (18- 32.7.2.2), and may lead to request for improvement as a condition of future approval.
