JAUNT

William D. Fritz, AICP
Albemarle County Department of Community Development
Dear Mr. Fritz,
Thank you for the opportunity to review the preliminary site plan for SDP201100063 - Cracker
Barrel. JAUNT has the following advisory comments.
1. This area is in the urban fare zone for JAUNT, where we provide trips primarily for
people with disabilities. Charlottesville Area Transit would be the main transit option for
the general public. As shown on the plan, the closest current CAT stop is near the site on
5th Street. As part of the proposed improvements to 5th Street, consider contacting CAT
about the possibility of moving /upgrading the existing bus stop, which is currently only a
sign on a pole in the grass.
2. The parking lot layout appears to be sufficient to allow JAUNT to serve the facility.
3. Pedestrian /bicycle connections:
a. There is no sidewalk shown along 5th Street, connecting the main building
entrance to 5th Street, or connecting to the existing CAT bus stop. The urbanizing
nature of this area seems to suggest a need to construct sidewalk connections as
properties are developed.
b. It may also be appropriate for the proposed improvements to 5th Street to
include a bicycle facility; the street has bike lanes in the City to the northeast and
a paved multi -use trail to the southwest.
Please contact me with any questions.
