School Security Improvements 2015 at Cale Elementary School
A. Written description of the proposal
1. Description of the proposed work:
• The main portion of the proposed work at Cale Elementary School will provide
an addition at the front of the building that will create a secure Vestibule at the
main entry. This Vestibule will require visitors to the school to enter a new
Administration Office and check in with the school staff before they can enter
the building. The addition will provide a general office space for four
Administration staff and a new Clinic for the school nurse.
• The second portion of the work at Cale Elementary School will provide site
lighting for a recently constructed parking lot behind and to the south-east of the
existing Cale Elementary School building.
2. Explanation of compatibility with the surrounding area and the Entrance Corridor:
• The proposed addition to Cale Elementary School will utilize the same exterior
materials and colors as the existing building. The proposed addition will be
constructed in front of the main entrance to the school, which is located in an
open-sided courtyard area created by a classroom wing to the north, the
Cafeteria to the south, and the main entry to the east.
The proposed addition will utilize the same exterior design features as the
existing building, including brick exterior walls with three brick soldier courses at
the top of the walls, 8" square stone or precast concrete accents in the brick,
white metal gravel stop and trim, white metal windows and door frames, and
exterior metal doors painted blue.
The majority of the existing roof is low-slope and not visible from the ground,
but therels a portion of sloped metal roof on the existing building, which is
white in color and generally matches the exterior metal trim. A gable end of the
s p ed-metai roof is centered over the existing main entrance, and—the-material
at this gable end is a stucco-type material, beige in color. The addition will utilize
only low-slope roofing, but a gable centered over the new entry doors will use
the same materials and colors as the existing gable over the entry.
• The proposed site lighting for the recently constructed parking lot will match the
existing adjacent site lighting poles, which are 24-foot tall on two-foot bases with
rectangular down-lights fixtures. The poles and fixtures will be dark bronze in
color, and will generally match the existing site lighting.
