Use description:
Private Special Education Day School licensed by the Virginia Department of Education to
provide special education services to children in grades K through 12. The school is seeking
licensure at 3020 Fontaine Avenue Ext. location for 20 students. (It would likely start with
ten and grow slowly to 20 with ultimately a maximum of 28 students.) The school would
start with 3 to 4 staff depending on student enrollment. The number of staff would grow with
student enrollment to a maximum of ten full time and potentially a few related service
workers visiting periodically. Current number of parking spaces is 28. Students transported
by their school system and are dropped off and picked up, so not student parking is required.
There would only be one shift and it will follow the Albemarle County Public School schedule
and calendar. Staff would also have ears so that would reflect on the number of vehicles.
Only the main floor (4,000 S.F.) is being leased for school.

Dear Mr. Roell:
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, at its meeting on May 15, 1996, approved the
above -noted request to permit fill activity in floodplain on 1.2 acres zoned Highway
Commercial. Please note that this approval is subject to the following conditions:
I . Department of Engineering approval of grading and drainage plans and calculations;
02.. The basement shall be used only for storage and mechanical equipment space. The
basement is not considered habitable and there shall be no employee work space or area
open to the public in the basement; and
Compliance with all local, state and federal permit requirements pertaining to fill activity
within the flood plain.
In the event that the use, structure or activity for which this special use permit is issued shall not
be commenced within eighteen (18) months after the issuance of such permit, the same shall be
deemed abandoned and the authority granted thereunder shall thereupon terminate. For purposes
of this section, the term "commenced" shall be construed to include the commencement of
construction of any structure necessary to the use of such permit within two (2) years from the
date of the issuance thereof which is thereafter completed within one (1) year.
