Dear Commissioners, Bill, and Sarah,
On behalf of Verizon Wireless, I would like to comment on the proposed draft amendment for antenna size and
mounting standards.
As described in Joseph Nekambuza's slide presentation illustrating Verizon Wireless' telecommunications equipment,
which he presented to the Commission at the March 10th work session and to the Board at its April 8th meeting, Verizon
Wireless installs LTE antennas at every site, and these antennas are approximately 1,750 square inches. We are
routinely granted special exceptions for these antennas. Therefore, we request that the proposed maximum face size
be increased from 1,250 square inches to 1,800 square inches.
To deploy six antennas on a support structure (two on each of three faces), which is necessary for propagating signals at
wavelengths for which Verizon Wireless is licensed in Albemarle County, with the necessary separation between
antennas, the top of the pole would need to be 24" diameter. The distance from the pole to the back of the antenna
would be approximately 19" at the closest point. While we are reconsidering Albemarle County's performance
guidelines with respect to current technology, please consider a maximum standoff of 24" so that standard technology
does not require special exceptions. Viewed in profile, the distance from the edge of one antenna to the edge of the
second antenna on each face would be only 52.5 ".
Please see the attached diagram, which illustrates these suggested dimensions.
Thank you for your consideration of this information. Please call any with questions.
Best regards,
Lori
