Memorandum
October 23,2015
To Margaret M. Maliszewski, Principal Project Texas Roadhouse Charlottesville,VA
Planner Project# 20140710.0
Albemarle County Department of
Community Development From Paula Hubert

22902 Re ARB Submittal
On behalf of our client Texas Roadhouse Inc. (TXRH), below is a description of the proposed work. This project involves the
new construction of a 7,420 square foot Texas Roadhouse sit-down restaurant and related parking field to be located at 455
Albemarle Square.
Texas Roadhouse intends to lease approximately+/-.68 acres in an outlot of the existing Albemarle Square Shopping Center.
The existing former bank building that is currently on this site will be demolished as part of the scope of work for this project.
The new structure that will be built will be used to accommodate a sit-down restaurant with alcohol sales.
In general, Texas Roadhouse's hours of operation are Monday thru Thursday from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Friday from 4:00 PM
to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Typically, 40 employees are
required for the peak shift.
The trademark/prototype design for the Texas Roadhouse project was revised to meet the Entrance Corridor design
requirements. The overall design includes traditional architectural elements and is compatible with local vernacular and other
recent projects in the Entrance Corridor. Key design features include:
• Brick, stone and wood in a palette of colors compatible with local context.
• Stone wainscot base, pilasters and piers adding texture and human scale to the building
proportions and scale.
• Entry canopy columns refined and detailed with stone and brick.
• Parapet and tower elements detailed with natural stained cedar, creating a cohesive
appearance to the materials and colors.
• Masonry details further define scale of the building, including brick detailing at cornice with
projecting soldier course in addition to rowlock brick coursing.
Other design elements that were revised to address the Entrance Corridor requirements include utilizing raised parapets to
fully screen roof top mechanical equipment as well as topping off the gabled roof elements with two United States flags in lieu
of a Texas flag. In addition, the standard LED"white"accent band that is typically used, the accent up lighting on the roofs
and the down lighting on the upper façade have been eliminated from this project, This change not only helps unify the
overall design and coordination of materials, it supports the goal of limiting exterior illumination to that which is necessary.
Finally, the primary Texas Roadhouse sign that faces the Entrance Corridor was reduced by 10%,to better align the size of
the sign with the overall proportions of the building and proximity to the Entrance Corridor.
