Subject: ARB201600011 Speedway - Sign
Jodi,
I have reviewed the proposed sign application, Speedway #4654 located at 1600 Seminole Trail, and have the following
comments:
1. The proposed design for the pylon sign face replacements is inconsistent with ARB guidelines and previous
approvals. ARB guidelines limit signs to three colors or less, and previous ARB approvals have consistently
upheld this limitation. The existing fuel pricing numerals are green to match the previous sign colors; revise the
proposal to change the fuel 'Flip Numbers' to coordinate with the other proposed sign panels (red, white,
black).
Rev1: Comment addressed.
2. If the existing illumination is to remain, provide a note stating "Existing illumination to remain" for the pylon
sign, and note if it is external or internal. If new illumination is proposed, provide the relevant information.
Rev1: Comment addressed.
3. Revise the drawing to indicate that the background of all illuminated sign panels is opaque and that only the text
and graphics shall illuminate.
Rev1: Comment addressed.
4. The ARB has previously determined Red acrylic #2283 to be an inappropriate color for signs, with Red #2793
(Pantone 187C) as an acceptable substitute. Revise the proposed channel letter color to an appropriate color.
Revl: Comment addressed.
5. The proposed vinyl color is noted as 3M 7725 -63 Geranium, which is slightly different than the other red
shade(s) proposed; consider revising proposal to use a consistent color in all locations.
Revl: The proposed vinyl color is now noted as "Poppy Red ". no number reference is provided, but our color
samples show that this is 3M 3630 -143 (pantone 1788C2X). As discussed over the phone, this Red is not on our
list of colors that may be administratively approved. Please revise the vinyl color to be consistent with the
other reds in the application (as noted in comment 4.... #2793, Pantone 187C and 3M 3630 -83 Scarlet
Red). Please also provide a color number on the application.
6. Add a note indicating that the ACM panel color white matches the canopy color white.
Revl: Comment addressed.
7. Add the following note to the drawing, "The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the
illumination produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon."
Revl: Provide this note on the Raceway Channel Letter sheet in addition to the Canopy Channel Letter sheet.
Please respond within 15 days of the date of this email indicating whether you will or will not proceed with these revisions.
