North Wing Charlottesville, VA 22902 Re: 5th Street Apartments Charlottesville, VA Dear Margaret, The following list of changes corresponds to the comments provided during the July 22, 2015 hearing, and submitted for approval on December 7, 2015. The modifications presented below correspond to item 15 on the list of comments, which reads- "15. Reconsider elevations of Building 5 to be more in keeping with the earlier color rendering presented at the previous meeting. All building elevations fronting on the EC require the same appropriate level of detail" In response to this comment, the following changes were implemented: 1. 3'-0" roof pop-ups were added above balconies to add architectural interest to the building elevation and roof line. 2. The balcony tower adjacent to the entry breezeways was extended, and the roof element was popped-up 3'-0"to create a change in planes thus creating a more dynamic façade. 3. Arched trim was added and board and batten panels were extended on the top level of the building to keep with the overall aesthetic and level of detail presented on buildings elsewhere in the property. All evergreen shrubs(Schip Laurel, and Dwarf Burford Holly) used to screen AC units along Entrance Corridor have been set to 4' height at install. 2. The chain link fence has been removed from visible areas.A 6' black ornamental fence is now called out around the pool and clubhouse.A 42" black ornamental fence is now called out along the top of all retaining walls and the tot lot. Please see sheets C-07A thru C-07E for revised fence locations and call outs.A detail of the proposed ornamental fence is shown on sheet C-02A. 3. One (1) UP has been moved to avoid water line. 4. Two (2) BN have been moved approximately 3'away from storm lines. 5. One (1)JV has been moved to avoid storm line. 6. Grades along the entrance and parking areas adjacent to the mail kiosk have been revised.These revisions were per VDOT and Engineering comments. 2. Main access drive widths were increased 2' around the site to comply with fire code.This revision is per comment from the Fire Marshall. 3. Some fire hydrant locations were revised.These revisions were at the request of the Albemarle County Service Authority. 4. Retaining wall location and grades were revised behind buildings 1 &2.This revision is per and Engineering comment regarding maximum retaining wall height in steep slope areas. The shrubs used to screen the mechanical units along the western facade of Building 5 have been switched from Inkberry Holly to a Cherry Laurel (4' height at time of installation).The plant schedule has been updated to quantify this planting change. 2. Notations have been added to sheet C-02A regarding retaining wall color to be Shannon Tan. ADDITIONAL NOTES: 1. Sheet C-02A shows typical planting layout per retaining wall manufacturer's instructions. Notes have been added above this specification sheet to ensure plantings shown on planting plan will be installed per the drawings, and that the structural engineer of the retaining wall needs to take proper steps to accommodate plantings to alleviate any concerns with the root balls of the trees/shrubs and the required retaining wall geo-grid.
