Dear Gerald,
Thank you for the opportunity to review SDP201000051, Avemore Phase IV Townhouses -
Final. JAUNT has the following advisory comments related to access to public transportation
within and around this site and access for people with disabilities.
More inter - parcel connectivity would be helpful for JAUNT to route vehicles efficiently.
Consider a road connection to Wilton Pasture Lane (and see final point below).
The loop road layout is helpful for JAUNT because it would allow us to serve most
residences without backing. As long as there is not on- street parking near the curves,
the design appears adequate for our vehicles to negotiate.
• Pedestrian Connectivity to Transit
o It is surprising to see no sidewalks in a development designated as an urban area
in the Comprehensive Plan. JAUNT would be supportive of adding sidewalks to
the project, at the least from the Village Green to existing Avemore sidewalks. If
no sidewalks are provided, please ensure a smooth, accessible transition from
existing Avemore sidewalks to in- street walking.
o Charlottesville Area Transit operates a bus route in the adjacent Wilton Farm
neighborhood. Providing an accessible route to transit could be as simple as
adding a short sidewalk or path connection to Wilton Pasture Lane. This would
greatly shorten the distance to a bus stop for residents of the Avemore
townhouses, giving them more travel choices.
We hope these comments can be considered in revising the plan. Please contact me with any
questions.
