The plans for the WPO and site plan amendments to the Monticello Visitor Center, received on 15 . January
2008, have been reviewed. Engineering review has no issues with the proposed changes to the WPO plan
and grants approval. However, engineering will require the following changes before recommending
approval to the site plan:
1. Please provide a detail for the proposed wall on both sides of the education pavilion.
Please also label the critical top and bottom elevations around the wall. A wall with a
height greater than 4ft will require a handrail.
2. Slopes steeper than 3:1 appear to be needed around the educational pavilion. For these
slopes, a low - maintenance ground cover will be required. Please specify.
3. There appears to be a slope steeper than 2:1 (maximum allowed) located south of the
storage building (F,1). This slope needs to be flattened out or a wall will be required. If a
wall is required, please provide a detail on the next submittal.

The site plan amendment to the Monticello Visitor Center, received on 19 May 2008, has been reviewed.
Engineering review has no objection to granting approval ofthis minor amendment.
However, please note that erosion matting is not the
solution to providing low maintenance grouudeover for slopes steeper than 3:1 because
the matting is usual1j used to assist with the stabilization ofgrass seeding. Grassed
areas are considered high maintenance dire to mowing operations. The connnh will be
looking for a mulched area with woody plantings such as juniper wheat the site is
inspected.
