It is recommended to provide mix design such that the 56 -day compressive strength equals or exceeds 4000 psi such that a reduced amount of cement may be used to help reduce shrinkage. 3. All concrete exposed to freezing and thawing shall have an entrained air content of 6% (f1.5%). D 4. All concrete shall be normal weight (145 pcf f) with cement conforming to ASTM C150, Type I. REVISIONS: 8. Care is to be taken in the finishing of FRC such that fibers are not pulled to the surface, particularly with the broom finish. Reinforcing steel shall be clean of mud, debris, loose rust, cement grout, or any other material which may inhibit the bond between the steel and the concrete. 10. Concrete protection for reinforcing steel and other general requirements for fabrication and placing of B reinforcing steel shall be in accordance with the "American Concrete Institute Building Code" (ACI 318-14) and/or VDOT 2007 Specifications. 12. All reinforcing steel shall be held securely in place to prevent dislocation during the placing operation. Slab reinforcing bars shall be supported on high chairs and bar spacers of suitable design. 13. Epoxy adhesives such as Hilti HIT-HY 200A, or an approved equal, shall be used where reinforcing steel dowels or anchor bolts or rods are to be installed into existing concrete, unless noted otherwise. 14.
