GOOD HOUSEKEEPING:
THE FOLLOWING GOOD HOUSEKEEPING PRACTICES WILL BE FOLLOWED ONSITE DURING THE
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT:
1. IDENTIFY ALL HAZARDOUS AND NONHAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES PRESENT AT THE
PROJECT SITE.
2. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER MUST COMPILE A LIST OF ALL CHEMICALS
PRESENT AT THE PROJECT SITE AND (OBTAIN A MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET (MSDS)
FOR EACH ONE.
3. WHEN POSSIBLE, ALL PRODUCTS WILL BE KEPT IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONTAINERS WITH
THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE'S LABEIL.
4. IF IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO KEEP THE PRODUCTS IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONTAINERS WITH
THE MANUFACTURE'S LABEL, THE NEVN CONTAINER MUST BE LABELED WITH THE NAME
OF THE PRODUCT/CHEMICAL, THE UNIT NUMBER (WHEN APPLICABLE), EXPIRATION DATE
(WHEN APPLICABLE), HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS, AND HEALTH OR ENVIRONMENTAL
HAZARDS (WHEN APPLICABLE). IF THIS INFORMATION IS NOT AVAILABLE ON THE
MANUFACTURE'S ORIGINAL LABEL, CONSULT THE MSDS'S FOR THE RELEVANT
INFORMATION.
5. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL MAKE SPECIAL NOTE ON THE INVENTORY
OF THE HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS ON THE PROJECT SITE THAT REQUIRE SPECIAL
HANDLING, STORAGE, OR DISPOSAL.
6. MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PROPER STORAGE, USE, AND DISPOSAL
MUST BE FOLLOWED FOR ALL CHEMICALS AND MATERIALS PRESENT ON THE PROJECT
SITE.
7. ALL MATERIALS STORED ON THE PROJECT SITE WILL BE STORED IN A NEAT, ORDERLY
MANNER IN THEIR APPROPRIATE CONTAINERS.
8. MATERIALS THAT HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR CONTAMINATING RUNOFF DURING STORM
EVENTS WILL BE STORED IN THEIR APPROPRIATE WATERTIGHT CONTAINERS, STORED
ON A SPILL PALLET UNDER A CANOPY„ TARPAULIN, SHRINK WRAPPED OR OTHERWISE
PRECLUDED FROM DIRECT EXPOSURE OF PRECIPITATION.
9. ACCESS TO STORAGE AREAS MUST BE RESTRICTED TO PREVENT VANDALISM.
10. WHENEVER POSSIBLE, ALL OF A PRODUCT WILL BE USED UP BEFORE DISPOSING OF THE
CONTAINER.
11. EMPTY CONTAINERS THAT MAY CONTAIN CHEMICAL RESIDUES SHALL BE DISPOSED OF IN
ACCORDANCE WITH FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS.
12. CHEMICAL OR PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WILL NOT BE MIXED WITH ONE ANOTHER UNLESS
RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
13. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL INSPECT THE INVENTORY DAILY TO
ENSURE PROPER USE AND DISPOSAL OF MATERIALS ON THE PROJECT SITE.
14. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL ENSURE ADEQUATE SUPPLIES ARE

5. MATERIAL FOR CONSTRUCTING THE DIVERSION BERM SHOULD BE SUFFICIENTLY
IMPERVIOUS TO CONTAIN OIL.
6. PLASTIC LINING MUST BE FREE OF HOLES, TEARS, OR OTHER DEFECTS THAT
COMPROMISE THE IMPERMEABILITY OF THE MATERIAL.
7. FUELING AREA CONTAINMENT SHALL BE REPAIRED, CLEANED, OR ENLARGED AS
NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN CONTAINMENT FOR 110% OF LARGEST STORAGE TANK

10. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER SHALL DISPOSE OF OR RECYCLE THESE
MATERIALS ACCORDING TO FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL REGULATIONS.
11. ALL VEHICLES ON THE PROJECT SITE WILL BE MONITORED FOR LEAKS AND RECEIVE
REGULAR PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TO REDUCE THE CHANCE OF LEAKAGE.
12. VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT WILL BE INSPECTED DAILY.
13. IF A LEAK IS DISCOVERED, USE DRIP PANS AND ABSORBENTS UNDER OR AROUND LEAKY
VEHICLES UNTIL THE LEAK IS REPAIRED.
14. LEAKS WILL BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY, OR THE PROBLEM VEHICLE(S) OR EQUIPMENT
WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PROJECT SITE.
15. THE EQUIPMENT/VEHICLE STORAGE AREA AND FUEL TANKS WILL BE INSPECTED WEEKLY
AND AFTER STORM EVENTS.
16. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL ENSURE THAT ALL PETROLEUM PRODUCT
CONTAINERS PROVIDE SECONDARY CONTAINMENT.
17. DOUBLE -WALLED CONTAINERS CAN BE USED AS A MEANS OF SECONDARY
CONTAINMENT;
18. NOTE, DOUBLE -WALLED CONTAINERS/TANKS WITH FITTINGS OR OPENINGS LOCATED
BELOW THE LIQUID LEVEL OF THE CONTAINER MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL SECONDARY
CONTAINMENT TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL, STATE, AND/OR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
19. NOTE, DOUBLE -WALLED CONTAINERS DO NOT PRECLUDE THE REQUIREMENT OF
SECONDARY CONTAINMENT FOR REFUELING OR TRANSFER OPERATIONS.
20. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER SHALL DESIGNATED AN AREA FOR THE
COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF ALL PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS.
21. THE CONTAINERS SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM RAIN EVENTS.
22. STORE CONTAINERS ON SPILL PALLETS OR EQUIVALENT STRUCTURES.
23. CONTAINERS MUST BE STORED AND STACKED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
MANUFACTURERS' DIRECTIONS.
24. ANY ASPHALT SUBSTANCES USED ONSITE WILL BE APPLIED ACCORDING TO THE
MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
25. THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER WILL ENSURE THAT ALL SPILLS OR
CONTAMINATED SURFACES ARE CLEANED UP IMMEDIATELY, USING DRY CLEAN UP
MEASURES WHERE POSSIBLE, AND ELIMINATE THE SOURCE OF THE SPILL TO PREVENT A
DISCHARGE OR A FURTHERANCE OF AN ONGOING DISCHARGE; THAT THE SURFACES
ARE NOT CLEANED BY HOSING THE AREA DOWN.
26. IF AGGREGATE ABOVEGROUND STORAGE CAPACITY OF PETROLEUM
CONTAINERS/TANKS/DRUMS STORED ON THE PROJECT SITE IS GREATER THAN 1,320
GALLONS, THE PROJECT CONSTRUCTION MANAGER MUST PREPARE A SPILL
PREVENTION, CONTROL, AND COUNTERMEASURE (SPCC) PLAN.
27. TO CALCULATE THE TOTAL ABOVEGROUND STORAGE CAPACITY, THE PROJECT
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER CAN ADD TOGETHER THE STORAGE CAPACITY OF ALL OF
STORAGE CONTAINERSITANKS/DRUMS AS WELL AS THE FUEL AND FLUID TANKS ON THE
MOBILE AND OPERATIONAL EQUIPMENT. IN THIS CALCULATION, INCLUDE ONLY THOSE
TANKS THAT HAVE MORE THAN 55 GALLONS OF STORAGE CAPACITY. THIS REQUIREMENT
DOES NOT INCLUDE MOBILE REFUELERS.
